I would really like to see Firestarter to be finished. Imagine , if you will, Charlie is older and looking for The Shop for answers about her parents and herself. Imagine Drew Barrymore coming back to finish Charlie's story. I think that would be so cool and different. Stephen king likes "The Shop" and has mentioned more than a few times. Would love to see what he could do now with the story.

Welcome! He hasn't mentioned The Shop in any of his writings for a long time. Guess he doesn't need a nefarious government group to explain away the horrors anymore. I wish he would do something with The Shop again. You have a great idea.

I think "Salem's Lot" is the book that really cries out for a sequel. But maybe we should be careful what we wish for. "The Shining" is my favorite King book, but I don't think "Dr. Sleep" added much other than to fill in some details on the characters. Interesting but sometimes less is more. I'm not sure that King can recapture the kind of raw style of those early years when he wrote those books. His style has progressed for good or ill.

Richard, you mean "Return to 'Salem's Lot didn't do it for you? <VBG>

I wouldn't mind revisiting the Lot, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is just side references like we got in Doctor Sleep, Pet Sematary and the Dark Tower. I totally agree with you that we have to be careful what we wish for . . . sometimes dead is better. :twitchy:

I love this story; for the longest time it was my favourite. I also must have rented the film three dozen times at least when I was about twelve (Shhhh!)
If memory serves the book finished with Charlie going to the offices of Rolling Stone to play show & tell.
I always feel any sequel should begin where the original left off. Will Charlie change her mind? Will she sense the insidious presence of the Shop? Perhaps a feeling or a message from her late father.
One thing is certain. No matter what turns a potential follow up tale may take Charlie is bright, resourceful, talented, unyielding and valiant. I think the crux of the story should be chiefly her loneliness and then her learning to hide her grief; to blend in to the point of invisibility (another gift?) and only make ties when absolutely necessary. Foster care wouldn't work. She'd be in the system and found. So how to live at 9 years old in NYC, moving constantly whenever she feels threatened should prove to be interesting. Cap's female replacement can be nothing other than utterly cold, calculating yet refreshingly maternal; her driving force should be lobbying for the dissolution of the Shop in favour of solely funding the Lot 6 program. She needs indisputable evidence to prove the Shop's catastrophic failure and their pressing need to re activate Lot 6,7 and 8: Charlie.
With the dark side of ambition as her co pilot, seeking the vindication that her predecessor failed to achieve while justifying their increased funding and the uniqitous principle: Never send a man to do a woman's job.

Drew Barrymore could once again play Charlie. She's the right age for it. And she hasn't done a dramatic turn since Grey Gardens.

I'm for it. I'll start a movement and organize a rally in front of Universal. But no Mark Lester to direct - it's gotta be someone like Sam Raimi or Jan DeBont.

Please not Sam Raimi. She's not a zombie and is too curvy for the Spidey Unitard. She'll stretch it out in places that will make small children giggle helplessly and give me nightmares. Sam has given me les bête noires before but he's never sent me screaming into therapy!

Some of us like to see a beautiful woman with curves! I would approach a director that has already done well with King works, i.e., Darabont or possibly Ron Howard. I love Reiner, but I don't see him as right for it. This one wouldn't have enough humor to speak to him.
