Diana Gabaldon (loooove her work)
Me too! - she is one of the few authors (other than Stephen King) where I made a point to buy all of her books.
She includes Scottish history and it's especially interesting when they go to the United States. The time travel aspect is fascinating :love_heart:

I know this thread is for "other" authors, but since I read my first SK book--Desperation--his works are all I've been reading. It's actually bad because now I don't branch out, besides books required for school. Although I did recently take a leap of faith and start Lord of the Flies, which is amazing!

I used to be the same way, but then little by little I began to read outside my comfort zone.

There are so many great works of literature and writers from all countries out there. That first "branch out" book is a good step toward discovering so many different visions by so many different and uniquely talented individuals.

Me, too! Already have pre-ordered the next one for my iPad so it will be delivered the day it comes out. I think I feel a cold coming on for sometime in December.
I've been wondering if she's any good. I love historical fiction, but go *sideeye* if the romance gets too silly (not opposed to romance in general, but it has to make sense in the story!). I review a lot of historicals where that happens, particularly in the last few years' glut of Scottish Hero books. Good to know that she's an option!

In no particular order:
Neil Gaiman
John Irving (though his last two were MEH)
John Steinbeck
Jen Lancaster
Louisa May Alcott (I have strong opinions as to how she's similar to SK and how she led me to him :D)
Geraldine Brooks
Joe Hill
Walter Mosley
George R.R. Martin
Jane Austen
Lee Childs--a newer one, to me. Funny, fast paced...but I suspect that the author is a Brit woman rather than a man--a lot of the phrasing is female, IMHO)
Joanne Harris

I should have just written BOOKS... lol

I think of reading nothing but King like eating steak. Would I eat steak everyday? Damn right, I love steak. But, sometimes you just want a nice greasy burger. I surely wouldn't turn down a big slab of prime rib with horseradish either.

I've had steaks too that were like eating an old boot.

Good simile. I'm vegetarian, haha! But I get what you're saying.
