In the introduction to "Low Men In Yellow Coats" from "Stephen King goes To The Movies" Stephen mentions that "Hearts In Atlantis is incomplete. He mentions a story by name, that is about what happened to Carol. I don't have the book in front of me, but can someone please remind me the name of that story, and does anyone know if it has been written yet or will ever be published?
...there is already a published work by that name...I can't remember Steve's title off the top of my head...but it's not the above I don't think, then again-I could be horribly wrong...that wouldn't be a first...
The story, in theory, is just another chapter in Low Men in Yellow Coats. So I don't think it would represent any problem. He did the same with "Cry of the Hunters", the last section of the 8th chapter in Low Men - but before that, that was the name of the 12th chapter in "Lord of the Flies".
This is nothing to do with Hearts in Atlantis being incomplete. I fact - I loved the ending of the book. I just finished a re-read and this time I read "Why We're in Vietnam" and "Heavenly Shades of Night Are Falling". What a perfect ending to it!
The first time I read HIA I had not read the Gunslinger or any of the Dark Tower books and stopped at "Blind Willie". This time I read to the end and I actually got tears in my eyes at the end
when Bobby and Carol finally meet up again
.
That was so lovely.
Not exactly like the book but as close as I could get!
Is a generation 20 years? I did not grow up in the 60s but I am not that much younger than Mr. King actually - old enough to 'get' this book.
I don't know why anyone would want another story in this book, so to me it IS complete. I'm glad he did not add another story into this mix, as I think it's perfect just the way it is
