I really liked this story. Reminded me of something that would be in Skeleton Crew.

Question about the ending--
What did the Judge mean when he said "Not me"? Did he mean he saw his attorney's name in the sand?

That's what I took it to mean. I had a good chuckle at the final sentence because I could imagine
the shocked look on the attorney's face when it dawned on him the hurry to draw up the will wasn't because the old and sickly looking Judge was going to die imminently...it was himself! :biggrin2: I sure hope The Judge poured him another large drink.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty funny!

This wasn't one of my favorites.

I didn't really follow why the guy kept visiting the island. If he was going to act on the information to save someone (e.g. like Jake in 11/22/63) that might be one thing but he apparently was just curious. The same result to read about it in the paper. The ending didn't make much sense to me. If the lawyer was going to die, why not just hire another lawyer instead of suddenly rushing to get his will done? I would imagine they are a dime a dozen to a well connected judge. It seemed like a pointless set up for the trick ending.

For me it was all about the Dune itself. I think the Judge likes mind games.

I took it as the judge was warning the lawyer that he (the lawyer) was going to die. And he had to tell the whole story first so the lawyer would believe him.[\SPOLIER]

It was the knowing. It became an addiction.

I also think
because of the judge's age, getting a new lawyer would require more background for the whole "sound mind" part of the will. He didn't have all those hassles with an attorney who had known and represented him for many years.
I dunno - just speculating, of course.
