Hi there,

I have another Firestarter question. Note the following:

(...), the memos, maybe even the testimony at the ultrasecret congressional hearings. We don't want him hanging on like Hoover. This Cuban business went entirely by the boards because he couldn't get his head out of that damned McGee file. Wife died very recently, you know. Great shame. Hit him hard. Whole McGee business nothing but a catalogue of ineptitude. Perhaps a younger man . . .

(Cap and Rainbird part, chapter1)

What's meant by the Cuban Business? Do they mean that Hoover supposebly screwed up during the Cuba crisis because he (Hoover) was so much into the Mcgee case? I am a little confused. The Lot 6 Experiment was in 1969. Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Can you clear my thoughts?

Sorry to bother again.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Steffen König just letting you know that I have copied the extra/new text into your comment above and have deleted the duplicate thread from the Movies section, as it's probably not necessary to have the same thread in both areas.

I don't have an answer to your question, sorry but perhaps someone else here will?

....Hoover had a less than stellar political reputation at times...leading to the belief he "hung on to long" to participation in the political process....Kennedy spoke to Hoover regarding the Missile Crisis prior to Kennedy's death in 1963...hence your time frame....

Thanks. I guess the Hoover comparison shall indicate that Cap is also holding too long to power after a series of failures made by the Shop.

I think that the so called Cuban Business is not the Cuba Crisis itself. It's simply one of the jobs which the Shop failed to accomplish.

Note:

It was a crazy, stupid mistake, but it hadn't been the first such on the Shop's part — according to an article Andy had read in Rolling Stone, the Shop had been involved and heavily influential in precipitating a bloodbath over an airplane hijacking by Red Army terrorists (the hijack had been aborted — at the cost of sixty lives), in selling heroin to the Organization in return for information on mostly harmless Cuban-American groups in Miami, and in the communist takeover of a Caribbean island that had once been known for its multimillion-dollar beachfront hotels and its voodoo-practicing population.

With such a series of colossal gaffes under the Shop's belt, it became less difficult to understand how the agents employed to keep watch on the McGee family could mistake a child's two nights at a friend's house as a run for the tall timber.
