I actually didn't think it was too bad. It wasn't good, really, but this one has such a bad rep that by the time I watched it I was convinced that I was in for a couple of hours of pure sh!t. But I enjoyed myself.

Ultimately, I didn't care for the book. Maybe that's why the movie didn't bother me so much; I wasn't expecting much, and I got a little more than I expected; good performances from the four leads and decent effects.

I certainly would not rank it as the worst King movie I've ever seen, even if it would be in the bottom ten.

It would have been good if not for Morgan Freeman's eyebrows. Good Lawd, I'm glad I had a big flat screen TV because otherwise I don't think I would've seen anything but brow.....
LOL, I too wondered just what was with those eyebrows? Did they think it made him look crazier? Because it made him look like he'd stepped out of a Rankin/Bass Christmas special!

The Darkside of the Moon (England really)
Sorry to join the party late but I just watched this, I finished the book quite recently.

I mostly agree with everything that's been said - it was not as bad as it gets made out to be, Morgan freeman's eyebrows were ridiculous, and SOME of the acting was good.

I didn't like kurtz as a character in the book so only someone like morgan Freeman could make him good, and he did. I thought young duddits was excellent, old duddits not so much. I thought Henry, Pete and beaver were all really good, drunk acting is very hard to pull off but Pete did it well, and I'm a fan of Jason Lee in the Jay & Silent Bob films.

Jonesy was OK at best until he became Mr grey. I mean really, a stereotypical English butler? I wanted to punch the telly when came on. That was horrible acting. And that ending......I just can't find the words to describe how stupid and bad it was.

So, apart from the ending and Jonesy/Mr Grey, not a bad film adaptation.

I liked the movie, for the most part, and I liked the alternate ending much better.
But, I liked the book... for the most part as well...
I normally don't care for King movies since they don't have time, in a movie, to do them justice. Mini-series... like It and the Stand... that's the way to go.

From what I've heard the end of the movie with the Dudditz reveal was altered from the original book ending. It was sort of a cool ending but in the greater story doesn't make enough cents to clack two pennies together. It raises to many questions whose answers don't really add up. But all together it wasn't a bad Science-Fiction Horror film.

I'm not one to dislike movies or books, so I enjoyed both. I liked the movie, but the ending was the only part I was unsure about; specifically
Duddits's death.
I think that the book explained it in such a great way, and it made the ending of the book that much more emotional, and it gives the reader a chance to care about him. The movie didn't do that so much, but I understand that the director also has a say in the story line too. I adored the book though, that was very well written, and I loved how the characters were written too. Definitely a favorite of mine!

I liked the book, but thought it was mostly for the initiated. I wouldn't consider it a good introduction to SK's work, but it was undoubtedly a solid page turner. To put it mildly, I didn't like the film. Eyebrows aside, it was just unbelievably dreadful. I could not finish it. Not being that bright, I can't do it's awfulness justice. Read Roger Ebert's review.
