I searched the forums and faqs for a possible answer, but found zilch. Awhile back, I read that Mr. King sometimes writes about his fears and/or elaborates on actual experiences. I know that the jogging scene from Kingdom Hospital (where the runner is hit by a careless driver) is based on reality. I was wondering if there was any particular connection or significance based on the song that was chosen to be played in the runners headphones (Fountains Of Wayne- Red Dragon Tattoo). I've become quite fond of this song and I am a very firm believer in the theory that music speaks 1000 words and tells a metaphorical story that every individual can relate to or interpret in their own way. Is there any specific reason why this song was chosen, or am I just overthinking? I'd love to hear the answer from Mr. King himself, but I would also be delighted if everyone that reads this could give their opinion on why they believe this song was chosen. I will post my interpretation as well if anyone is interested. Thanks for reading. :) I look forward to everyone's response.

Welcome - and I do not think you will get an answer to your question. To tell you the truth I will have to listen to the song first as I have never heard it!

Wow! - that was a great video - thanks Dana Jean!

At first I thought it was just a good song to run to (good beat) but I think the video is very similar to what happened to Mr. King.

Of course the original driver (in real life) did not just take off like in the video. What a cad - to do a hit and run and leave someone on the side of the road to die - that is sick.

I dunno...something to do with jogging, improving one's self...it isn't painted on...am I fit to have you...I like what the song says about appearances...this singer is ready to get a tattoo...had to look at the lyrics on-line my mind wanders and imagines other words when I try to listen. Bad hearing I guess. Too...hard to ignore the red in red dragon...as in why does this jogger/singer want a red dragon tattoo? the color red conjuring all manner of things associated with red...the devil...bad...somewhat associated with the other tattoos that she looked at...a mermaid? others?...a heart that says mother. Have you read Insomnia? Curious event therein if you're interested. A puzzle, why things happen, free will and all that. So what's your take on it?

Well based on the lyrics, I would think the song empowers or motivates him to relieve the stress caused by his wife by running. In his mind, he'd do anything for her (including getting stabbed with a needle repeatedly).. but she doesn't see it.

But, based on the fact that dragons are strong and fierce, he was mad at her, didn't want to hurt her and wanted to justify in his own mind that his will was strong, he is still
top dog, and will always protect her.

Based on the accident, maybe he had his ipod on random and fate was telling him that something big like a fierce dragon (or a van) was about to attack and remain strong.

..or hell, maybe he was just a fan and the song was stuck in his head.. but I always like to think that everything happens for a reason and signs are everywhere.
I'm a dreamer, but my heart's of gold :)

Just binge watched this a few weeks ago and I HAD to download this song! I looked for a soundtrack to no avail and wanted the song that plays at the start of each episode too but you have to buy the artists whole album.Anyway.....this song has been stuck in my head since I watched it.
Seems like I remember seeing some chick in a bed with a dragon tattoo somewhere along the way(unless I am thinking of a completely different movie).

The ""chick in a bed" was Evangeline Lily, who would go on to play Kate on LOST.
