This is the only SK book that I didn't finish. It didn't engage me at all. Having said that, a fair amount of time has since passed since then, so I might just give it another whirl.
Do it imajica! You won't regret it. You'll also have a good basis of comparison for the filmed version. It starts out a bit slow but builds up and up. Also, a few easter eggs along the way that you might recognize.

It must be really challenging for them, HBO bought the rights for this story over 10 years ago, and still no film. It might be a blessing in disguise though , if they ever get it done I hope its conveyed as brilliantly as Stephens words, it might not be possible.

Rose Madder was the one i could not put down to even sleep. Its when I realized that Stephen was actually a Genius, and not only step inside the mind of a killer, but could BE one, so very clever! I agree with Scott that the supernatural elements and painting to the dirty criminal realities were what really made it unique and a pawnshop on the street was the doorway to her dark fairytale forest.

Just finished Rose Madder. Good read. The Bull mask seemed to come out of nowhere and became an important element connecting it to Rosies journey through the picture but seemed last minute to me. If Norman were described as a bull throughout, maybe but he was'nt until he took on the mask. I didn't quite get the end with the seed and why it was important to plant the tree to purge the hostility. Perhaps it was all the years of abuse bottled up in the representation of a seed? Not sorry I read it. On to Desperation!

I really love this book (the audio reading is amazing also). I know he's not supposed to but Norman Daniels cracks me up. The banter inside his head is so crazy it's funny and since listening to the audio, I can't get through reading the book without hearing it in King's voice.
