In order to enjoy the series I've had to see it as being a very loosely based on the novel.

The main cast being very different in appearance to the descriptions in the book. The fact George / Jake and Sadie are meant to be tall as an example was something I really related to and really disappointed about.

Certain events that took place in the novel I really visualised and enjoyed have vanished. Im going to wait until the whole series has been aired and watch in one long binge so I don't get quite as lost as I feel at the moment.

Hope others aren't as dissapointed as me. Maybe it'll grow on me.

We've been discussing this quite a bit on another thread (can't remember the name of the thread off the top off my head). I think they got the feel of the book right, even with massive storyline changes. Those bothered me a little until I decided to ask myself this question: If I'd never read the book, would I still like the TV show? Yes, I would. It's a strong story with good characters and performances, and well-written. Therefore, it's a successful show to me. :) This is like The Walking Dead for me: the stories from the book and the TV show weave in and out of each other, sometimes touching and sometimes far different, and both work in their own medium.

Very well put.

I'm not that bothered by the cast looking different to how I imagined them, and they're not exactly drastic. Jodie however, is very different to how I pictured it, and making the town right is a lot more important because kings descriptions of jodie made it feel so warm and cozy, I didn't get get that from the show.

Still loving it though.
