....Jodie Texas sat by me in Homeroom.....true story, ask anybody.....
Actress Jodie Foster's real last name is Texas. She took "Foster" as a stage name because her agent told her parents (remember, she's been acting since she was a wee child) that people would forever think she was from Texas and associate her with their "Republican ways." I always assumed SK new this and used it as a shoutout of sorts to Ms. Foster.

And if any one believes that I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you. ;;D

In 1977 I visited TEMPLE, Tx. Is Jodie for TEMPLE?
Thanks for your work
sgrunt:blues:

Temple's just down the road from me. Why do you say that? I haven't read the book since it came out, so there could be something in there making you think of it.
Temple is not really famous for anything, except being close to Ft. Hood. Lots of servicemen live there. And I don't know how big it was in the 50s, but probably much bigger than you would call a "small" Texas town. It's well over 100K now, and was the same in the 80s.

I'm from Dallas as well. Born at good ol' Parkland. My mother was there the day Kennedy was shot. She worked at Neiman Marcus at the time. Officer Tippett used to drag my sister home whenever she'd run away or get in trouble. Lol! I loved the reference to The Dallas Texans. Not many people know The Cowboys were once The Texans.

I had the honor of representing my police department by attending the flag presentation ceremony for Officer Tippett's widow. Due to the craziness surrounding Kennedy's assassination, she was never presented a flag, and it went unnoticed for decades. The situation was finally remedied on the 50th anniversary of his murder - scheduled to be on the site of the shooting, but had to be moved inside because it was very cold - near freezing, I think - and Mrs. Tippett wasn't exactly up for it. A very moving ceremony.

I didn't know that either! I'm glad someone stayed on it for her. How amazing you were able to be a part of it.

Hello!

I'm so curious to get a new frantic facts about 11/22/63 since i recently (finally!) read it. Lately i tried to google some information about Jodie, TX (in fact i avid to see some photos of that place) but i failed - i only gone over wrong hyperlinks, that leads to pages, dedicated to persons named Jodie and etc. So i wonder if Jodie is a real town in Texas? Could someone please help me get any information about it? Will highly appreciate!

It's right next to Buffy, Texas. ;-D You have to be old to get that one.

Actually the Dallas Cowboys have always been the Dallas Cowboys, starting with their birth in 1960. There were two Dallas Texans franchises. One folded in the early 50s, the other Texans team moved to Kansas City and became the Chiefs.

Not necessarily offending but that does enter into it. More to the point, it removes the possibility of making mistakes about descriptions that then get pointed out by readers. :smile2:

That story is close to the truth. There was an NFL team in Dallas named the Dallas Texans for one year in 1952. They were a relocated team from New York called the New York Yanks. After one year, the team folded. What was left of it and the franchise spot became the Baltimore Colts. When the NFL tried to start another franchise in Dallas, it was named the Dallas Cowboys. They briefly changed its name to the Dallas Rangers but went back to the name Cowboys before the start of the 1960 season. The rival league to the NFL was the American Football Leagues (AFL). The AFL had a team called the Dallas Texans who shared the Cotton Bowl with both the Cowboys and SMU. The AFL Dallas Cowboys moved in 1963 to Kansas becoming the Kansas City Chiefs. The Dallas Cowboys have always been the Dallas Cowboys.

GO SEAHAWKS!

P.S. Damn, I see OKKingfan already told this story. You know your ball OKKing fan!

I'm not even sure Texas is a real place some days.

You do know DFW stands for Dallas/Fort Worth. But really it stand for "Different F**king World". No matter where you're at, Texas is a state of mind.

Given the size, distance, local HS etc...I would picture Glen Rose, Texas as being quite similar to Jodie. Small town, just over 1 hour SW of Dallas about 40 min SW of Ft Worth...it is in the Texas Hill Country.
