Regarding the "likes" at the bottom of a posting, when I click on the overflow indicator ("5 others" as an example) it brings up a new box showing the entire list of members who liked the posting. But my small profile image to the left of my member name is completely black. I was wondering, does the person who is logged-in have their image blacked out, is it a glitch in the software, or some effort by SKMB to paint me in a darker light? :)

I've just had a look at a couple of the overflow 'thanks' for an example and it doesn't happen on my avatar. What I'm seeing is that the people with dark coloured avatars do become even darker, I can see the very faintest (unless that's just my eye-sight) outline of the monkey in your pic.

Thanks. When I look at recent posts, my small image that indicates that I started this post appears just fine. And it’s the same size as the image in the overflow box. In the overflow box, mine looks to be completely black and I can’t see any faint image. Yet everyone elses avatar looks just fine, no matter how dark their's is.

(And what to you mean "monkey?" That’s a pic of me! I know some don't quite think I've evolved much, but sheeez. :))

I think it is something specifically to do with the fact that it's in the pop-up box.
(Similar to when we click on someone's username and a box appears giving us options before progressing to their profile--this box is quite dark in appearance and I wonder if the overflow pop-up box, although not appearing dark in itself, may be affecting the darker coloured avatars?)

I am not sure what an overflow box is, but I just went to my alerts and I did notice that @arista's picture, which is a black pug, is quite dark.
Here's a screenshot of the "overflow" box I'm referring to. Dana Jean's and Out of Order's avatars are a bit dark, but very viewable. I've noticed only I am left in the dark (pun intended ;)).

I think it is that Irving Washington guy down in receiving/out-going...he longs for you tragically... And when I click on the pic all these compromising pics, past posts pop up...I wondered how someone in another thread was privy to past nom de plumage. Figured it must be a better decoder ring than I have. Need to save some more UPCs from the back covers but I'm hesitant to do damage to my books even though they're in a sad state.

every once in a while, I think certain screens zoom in on a "piece" of someone's avatar. I've seen this with others occasionally. In this case, the blackness of yours DiO. Of course, why wouldn't that be consistent with everyone? Maybe it has to do with where the original image came from and it's interaction with this software. Can avatars interact with software?

I don't know what the hell I'm talking about.

Okay - gotcha - asking that question was just "a shot in the dark" so to speak but you have cleared it up for me now. - Thanks! :tickled_pink::loyal:

I think maybe you've nailed it there, Deej--it's possible DiO's avatar is not quite (exactly) square... even if it is a teeny bit off, it can make the software zoom in on the picture.

DiO... you could save your avatar pic and open it in a photo viewer/editor program on your computer and 'square' the image up. See if this will make a difference?

(P.S Just a reminder to folks, if messages in the website threads are not directly relating to the issue they will be deleted without warning--but (please) do not be offended by this. :) )

I created the image myself and made it completely square, and saved it as simple jpeg image. So unless the software has been taken over in Maximum Overdirve fashion, and somehow gives a Dorian Gray like window into the soul of it's creator (which would be a bit creepy), I don't think that's it. A zoom in feature would make sense, but why only mine? Perhaps it's because the image is only black and white (as Hoss believes I view the world :)). I'm sure Jordan will come by in a day or two and give a simple explanation. In the meantime I'll give that photo viewer/editor thingy a shot.

(Walter, now your comment make more sense... loved the movie Catch-22, but haven't read the book)

No, you're right... it is exactly square. I do think it is zooming in on the pic but I don't know why. Good idea... this is definitely one for @Jordan. :)

The problem was probably caused by a processing error on the server side. The smaller thumbnails of avatars are batch processed smaller images generated from your avatar. Depending on what software you used to generate the JPEG (and how it was saved), the server may not have been able to change it properly. You can try re-uploading your avatar and/or uploading it in a different format, e.g. PNG, GIF.
