I wonder when we get some sort of official Dark Tower announcement. How many films will there be, is it still gonna be accompanied by a tv-series?

According to IMDb it is scheduled for February 2017. Hard to believe we will see it in under a year, can they really make it before that time?

I hope they have some overall plan to make something that's finished, so it won't be such a case that when the first film doesn't do well they stop filming altogether (like they did with adaptations like Golden Compass and Eragon), so you end up only having a first part and nothing more. The thing is that when an adaptation seems to 'fail', like Golden Compass and Eragon, it will take ages before a second adaptation will commence (if at all). Only now is there talk of a His Dark Materials series for BBC and we have still to see that materialize (no pun intended).

As for Elba. If Steve is not against it, it's hard to be against it yourself. It's Steve's character. It's a question of 'just wait and see' how he will do. Remember how no-one could imagine Daniel Craig as Bond when he was announced and he was terrific. The filmmakers must have their reasons for casting Elba, and hopefully those reasons will become apparent when we see the film(s).

Just got back from Hastings bookstore and I saw that there have been new re-releases of the first 4 Dark Tower trade paperback books and they all have this tag line at the bottom of the front cover:
Soon To Be A Major Motion Picture

Those came about in part because Scribner now owns the publishing rights to the first four books which were previously held by Penguin.

Elba on the cover? :concern:
The artwork is the same that Penguin used--just has the movie tag line added.

Stephen is a producer for the first time on The Dark Tower. Before he was always executive producer on the adaptations he was directly involved in.

The way I understand it is that when he's executive producer he sort of has the role of an advisor: he talks to the producers and directors and offers his ideas. On Under the Dome he was allowed to influence the choice of the actors.

A producer on the other hand is someone who decides how the money on a production is gonna be spent.

If he is a producer on Dark Tower rather than an executive producer, does that mean this time his role on the film is bigger or different?

He has been involved with this production from the start and has final script approval. I'm not sure how much control he has with casting. He won't be visiting the set or doing a cameo, at least for the first one, as it's being filmed in South Africa and he doesn't have time in his schedule to make that trip.

It's nice he has final script approval. I imagine he wants to be close to this project especially and be able to change things he thinks are not right.
It's still too early to say how many films there will be or whether there will also be a tv-series, I guess?

What strikes me is that director is Nikolaj Arcel, who wrote the screenplay for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (the original Danish one). The director of that film (Niels Arden Oplev) also directed the first episode of Under the Dome. Is this total coincidence?
