Idris Elba really, really should have color enhanced eyes for the film.

Here's my why:

Going through basic military training one of my TI's (training instructors) had blue eyes and she was black.

It was agreed upon, although largely unspoken, that it was difficult to make eye contact with her for very long at all. Her eyes were like a hawks and demanded more than just your attention. Seemed wrong to look away, but dangerous to keep on. It was scary some, but mostly just left you feeling that she could look into your soul if she wanted.

(I'm a ginger, and reputed to have no soul, but I haven't forgotten the face of my father. Unless I'm a red headed step child too?)

Turns out they were probably just contacts. But she had a fierce look about her.

Why don't they give Idris enhanced eyes? It worked in Thor. It was stunning!!

Can somebody please photoshop some blue eyes on Idris Elba for reference and share in reply?

Let's play a game. A hard game. Let's pretend the person below is Idris Elba. And then focus on the eyes. This gets the idea across, but if anyone could photoshop Idris eyes an ice cool blue I'll delete this one. I could've used one with Kanye West, but for my fathers sake, a haven't.

Why? If you've seen Thor, you've seen him with light eyes. He already has a commanding presence, regardless of eye color. Roland is more than a physical characteristic--Mr. King is too good a writer to confuse character with characteristics.

While I agree that physical characteristics aren't everything, I assert that this minor adjustment would make an unforgettable character. Blue eyes and dark skin is both rare and beautiful to say the least. It's not even about being a purist to the fiction writing, although I assume some fans would gladly accept that as a tribute to the originally envisioned Roland of Gilead.

Fair enough :)

You know I have never seen him move or speak - maybe caught a glimpse of him in a music video as a sort of cameo role.

He looks intriguing, to say the least.
He's a Brit, but he does a perfect American accent (one of his biggest US roles was on the HBO series called The Wire, where he played a Baltimore thug named Stringer Bell).

Quick thread re-alignment:

I think Idris has a very carved and hard looking appearance about him, but his eyes are perfectly normal.

They don't speak of the sun-faded hardships of in-world, mid-world, or end-world. They are just ordinary.

A lightly blue eyed Idris would make for a truly intriguing image, both frightening, exotic and ancient looking IMHO.

Although, I can understand that it may be insulting to ask an actor to change his eye color of birth, it is certainly not uncommon or unheard of in any way.

Have they not even tried this as part of the actors custuming and makeup? I've seen lots of folks mention the eyes in particular when voicing complaints about the casting role. I for one, think Idris is going to be epic. He looks the part a person from a bygone world, all but perhaps one specific gunslinger
