Another show that looks interesting is Animal Kingdom. I haven't seen it but I am recording the series on my dvr. The show is based on an Aussie movie (called Animal Kingdom). I saw the movie a while back and liked it so I'm hoping the show is close to as good as the movie.

I'm really liking the TNT show Animal Kingdom. I've seen 3 episodes and I think most of you would like it. It's based on an Aussie movie from 5 or 6 years ago. Episode 1 was basically a remake of the first part of the movie, then the show pivots away from the movie because the movie ending wouldn't work for a continuing TV show.

It's about a high school age boy whose mother dies and he has nowhere to go so he calls his grandmother to see if he can live with her. He hasn't seen his grandmother since he was a little kid because his mom had kept him away. Grandma is the head of a small crime family consisting of her and the boy's uncles. So the story is about this crime family and their new addition.

I don't usually quote myself but I felt it was necessary in this instance. ;-D

Hi!

You posted that show and I went off to see if I could get it. Usually, if you like it I will as well. I don't get that channel. (Psst. I tried to get around it but no go. Yet. Ha!)

Hey!

I'm trying to find things to watch this weekend and so far I have these in my queue

HOLIDAYS (5.2/10 according to IMDb) (Streaming on Netflix)

is an anthology feature film that puts a uniquely dark and original spin on some of the most iconic and beloved holidays of all time by challenging our folklore, traditions and assumptions.

skimom2 I'm thinking Holidays may not be appropriate for your Lil Man.

And of course Stranger Things is in my queue as well.

... The result is “Stranger Things,” which tells the story of a sleepy Midwestern town rocked by a young boy’s sudden disappearance. What follows is the terrifying, paranormal aftermath involving a determined single mother (Winona Ryder), the initially skeptical local police chief (David Harbour), a very special little girl (Millie Brown) – and a shady doctor conducting even shadier-looking experiments (Matthew Modine).

Just finished North and South--not the U.S. Civil War thingie (book was fine reading, TV show was...okay), but a BBC adaptation of the book by Elizabeth Gaskell. Really admired it, so much so that I downloaded the book (free on Amazon) and have dived into that, as well.

At first I thought you meant the John Jakes books. Is it still free on Amazon?

Just finished tonight's episode of "Killjoys." One of the characters described a creature they encountered as looking like an "angry vagina." I love Killjoys.

I like the Jakes book, but this one isn't that one. I believe it's still free on Amazon--I'd be surprised if it isn't in the public domain, since it's from the late 1800s--author is Elizabeth Gaskell. In the vein of Austen, but meatier. I'm really enjoying it so far.

I just recently heard about Peaky Blinders and watched the first season. I liked it very much and am about to buy season 2. Currently I am in the midst of season 4 of Justified and then I am going to watch the first two seasons of Salem. So many shows, so little time.

Not watching right now, but after Stranger Things I noticed Netflix (UK) has every Star Trek series. I already have TOS and TNG on DVD, and have caught every ep of Enterprise and Voyager on TV. The one series I never saw every ep of, however, was DS9...so that's what I'm watching now. Just the seven seasons. :D
Ah, Jadzia, Jadzia.

(And thought no one asked, here's my Order of Trek:
1 - TNG; 2 - TOS; 3 - DS9; 4 - Enterprise; 5 - The Animated Series :biggrin2:; 6 - Voyager...because of what they did to the Borg and Janeway being inconsistent, plus the whole descent into 'The 7 of 9 Show'. In fact, Voyager is only at 6 because I've not seen the fan-made show yet and the new series isn't out for a while. I'm sure it'd place 8th after all that, though.)

I just finished binge watching Lillyhammer, very strange, violent, quirky and funny. Two annoying things about it though:

1. It got cancelled, so they had to wrap everything up hastily, and

2. Throughout the whole thing whenever someone spoke in Dutch (or Swedish or whatever) they had subtitles, which was fine, but the last few episodes they stopped them. What, since I had watched all the previous seasons, I should be fluent in their language? It was annoying not knowing what the characters were saying.

Maybe you hit the button that turned off subtitles on your TV?

I just finished watching the hilarious British series Fresh Meat. 2 seasons of it are on Netflix and all 4 seasons are on Hulu. It's about a house full of college students that are sharing a house, going to class and learning to live on their own for the first time. They are all freshman in season 1 (except for one of them) and graduate in season 4. Highly recommended (and for mature audiences only).

I found my three season DVD set of a show called "Millennium". It was created by Chris Carter and James Wong, the X-Files guys. Lance Henriksen is cast as "Frank Black" an ex-FBI agent and profiler who is able to put himself in the minds of killers. I had forgotten how good this show was. The show takes place in the late 90's and a side plot is that the group Frank Black works with believes the year 2000 may bring about Armageddon. Great writing and dark plots in every episode. I had forgotten I bought this DVD set back before I moved into my house in 2004. My son's down with a very nasty stomach virus so I'm binging on the whole series today. The opening credits and music are very coo. "Wait.....Worry.....Who Cares?"
