Many might not want to hear this -- and I haven't read much about this project yet, so perhaps this is the direction already being offered, although probably not -- but I think the best way to adapt this is to keep the premise, but change just about everything else. I read the book a long while ago, and it certainly is a great story, but what I remember of it -- the abuse angle, the Space Cowboy, etc. -- probably won't work on screen. Instead, perhaps she should be discovered by a group of individuals on the run from the law after a short time period in which she is menaced by things from nature -- the dog, maybe a queen hornet building a nest, that sort of thing. Maybe she could be discovered by teenagers who wonder what they should do. In both cases, threatening to leave her there if she doesn't give them access to money would come up. Eventually, she could escape somehow and then hunt the group down in the woods, leaving one in her predicament. Maybe even the husband brings her there with the express purpose of trapping her. Who knows, but those are my thoughts at the moment.
And now I'm a little scared! Makes me want to write something though;;D

I agree with doowop girl that 11/22/63 was well done, even with the changes (there was a character who had a much bigger part in the series than in the book and even though he hot under my skin, I understand why they needed to tweak the story for that).
CYB, you have a point also that maybe our expectations were so low (mine were pretty much rock bottom after UTD, I hated that one too) and that could be another reason so many of us appreciated 11/22/63.
UTD was awful. But 11/22/63 was SO well done that UTD would have been even more of a disappointment.

Hmmmm.....out of of the Stephen King novels, novellas, etc.....Gerald's Game is the one of the last I think should be made into a movie. I mean...maybe if its a made for T.V movie, but a big production...I just don't see it translating well.

Kind of like Fifty Shades of Grey was better as a novel and not a movie...IMO

let's be honest, there's no aspect or incarnation of fifty shades of grey that can be considered good. that's like saying the dog turd looks better on the grass than it does on the sidewalk

:snicker:
It was an odd comparison, yea, but if I had to choose: - a dog turd in the grass looks worse. It's a trap! You are apt to step right in it, whereas you would most likely step over it in the sidewalk.

That reminds me a bit of the premise of a decent movie called "Deadgirl." The trouble with a plot like that contained in GG is that a big Hollywood production likely feels it must tone it down for a mainstream audience or create more action. It would have to be changed in some fundamental ways. I think it could only be done right as an independent film that doesn't concern itself with box office or audience sensibilities but rather making a good movie. Which I think could be done while remaining true to the book.

I've never really liked any of the movie adaptations of Stephen's works. Don't get me wrong, I still watch them. I enjoy some, groan at others. Anyways, I really don't think any movie could even come close to the horrors that the book did. I absolutely loved Gerald's Game. Every aspect of the book gave me chills. I think I loved it so much because it was more about inner demons then any supernatural aspect. I don't think a movie adaptation of it could come close to the horror the book makes you feel.

I didn't know you left Mobile these days, I must have missed something!
;;D
No, I seriously missed something. . .
so I'm not sure any more rumination over this issue can be done on my part. I'll keep an open mind and possibly see the adaptation.
:peach:
My mom saw the headlines from around the region in her e-mail, so I only knew about it on the way back to Mobile, and didn't have the opportunity to look around...
