Some exciting and unusual moves taking place in New York. Josh McCown has been signed by the Jets as a quarterback, while Geno Smith and Brandon Marshall have gone from the Jets to the Giants. Strange to think that both of them will still have the same home stadium, and probably won't need to move house!

What do you all make of these moves? Are there any Jets or Giants fans here? George RR Martin is a fan of both teams, and will no doubt be writing about the trades on his blog any day now, in his usual brilliant, informed and opinionated way!

Personally, I would like to see Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg get plenty of playing time this year, just to see what they've got. I hope McCown has only been brought in as a mentor to the younger guys and a dependable backup, should the need arise. Marshall could become part of a formidable and entertaining double-act with Odell Beckham, which would be a lot of fun if it worked out. And Geno - I don't believe he is as bad a player as his reputation suggests. It'll be interesting to see how he develops within a healthier organisation with better coaching.
Glad to see Smith go, and I think Marshall is beyond his prime and better to cut him loose and free up some cap space. And I understand they are considering adding Kaepernick to the roster also. Didn't they see any of his playing time last year? I want some of those drugs the Jets braintrust must be on.

I've been a diehard Jets fan since 1967. People here think I'm plum crazy, and not just in this thread. I dunno, being a Jets fan is probably the best argument they have to support their claim. :)

Yup.... If a Browns fan chimed in. :)

The last time the Dolphins won the Super Bowl, Patty Heart was a fugitive.

The Jets last won on the same day that Led Zeppelin's debut album was released (true - I looked up events that happened in Jan 69 and found that tidbit). The Jets haven't won since we walked on the moon. ;-D

True, but answer me this... Why do the Dolphins keep hiring NYJ cast-offs that weren't even good enough for the Jets? :)

DiO'Bolic, what are your thoughts on seeing Josh McCown in a Jets uniform? In particular, seeing him in a Jets uniform at this moment, when your only other quarterbacks are Petty and Hackenberg? Do you hope that he will be the starter, or would you rather see Hackenberg thrown in at the deep end to see if he swims? Personally, I'm glad McCown is there, because having Bryce Petty as the most experienced quarterback on your roster is bold to the point of recklessness, but overall I hope that McCown is just a safety net for the team and a mentor for the two young guys. Hack seems promising, from the tiny scraps of gossip that occasionally leak out, and I would like to see how he fares on the stiff learning curve of real NFL games.

Kaepernick? Whew, I hope not. I have ZERO against the man - I just think that bringing in two veterans would be sheltering your two young rookies more than is good for them.

I posted this the other week regarding McGown...

"Oh great! The Jets bring in a 38 year old career backup to lead the team in 2018. I guess George Blanda wasn't available. Well, there's always 2019, I guess. :("

McGown is a one year deal, at best. Have to see what they do in the draft and if Mitchell Trubisky is available. If Petty or Hackenberg don't step it up the Jets will be looking for another cast off QB in 2018 and go off on yet another rebuilding year for like the 45th year in a row.
