War Dogs - Miles Teller, Jonah Hill

Based on the true story about a pair of young guys who tapped into the lucrative defense contract world of supplying arms to Afghanistan. You may remember the news story a few years back of two guys selling illegal ammunition to the US government. This movie is about them. Two longtime friends stumbled onto a way to be middlemen between weapons manufacturers and the US government. They had absolutely no background in this kind of thing but they managed to secure several multi million dollar contracts with the US government. Everything was going well until they got greedy and bit off a bigger contract than they were capable of dealing with. I liked this one. I've seen Miles Teller in a few movies and I really like him. He reminds me of the 25-35 year old John Cusack.

Saw that last year - pretty good!

Train to Busan--a Korean horror movie, now on Netflix. It was interesting! The little girl actress was phenomenal. I've never had a zombie movie make me cry before (though Maggie came close). Follows the normal Z movie formula, but this time it takes place on a fast moving train. Good special effects and a strong cast set it apart from the crowd, and the ending is a little different than most. I'd watch it again.

I had read that this was something akin to the greatest zombie movie of all time. I watched it this weekend also, it was ok, and the acting was very good, but not the greatest zombie movie of all time by any means imho.

Came across Resistance (2011) on Netflix.

A very good movie with excellent imagery. About an alternate reality where D-Day fails and Nazi Germany invades Great Britain in WWII. Women from an isolated village awake to find their husbands have suddenly left to join the resistance. The women and their war-weary German occupiers, facing a harsh winter, find they must cooperate with each other to survive.

Denial

Acclaimed writer and historian Deborah E. Lipstadt must battle for historical truth to prove the Holocaust actually occurred when David Irving, a renowned denier, sues her for libel.

I liked it very much. (Now streaming on Netflix.)

Have a great evening!

Rogue One-second viewing, and I liked it even more than I did the first time.

Kubo and the Two Strings-This one, from a small animation studio, was nominated for an Oscar, and it should have won. Great story and animation. I'll definitely watch it again.

Ha! I read that as 'Rogue'- one second viewing. I thought 'why would you watch only one second of a movie?' It's been a long day, what can I say? ;-D

Crimson Peak

In the aftermath of a family tragedy, an aspiring author is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds - and remembers.

I liked it very much. I don't know how I missed it when it first came out.

Director Guillermo "Del Toro wanted the film to honor the "grand dames" of the haunted house genre, namely Robert Wise's The Haunting and Jack Clayton's The Innocents. The director intended to make a large-scale horror film in the tradition of those he grew up watching, such as The Omen, The Exorcist, and The Shining. He cited the latter as "another Mount Everest of the haunted house movie", praising the high production values and Stanley Kubrick's control over the large sets."

I first thought it would be cool for skimom2 and her LilMan and sir ghost19 and his tweenager but...no. No. Especially the
last 20minutes or so.

If you have a couple of hours for chills and thrills, I watched it here:

Martyrs

A young woman's quest for revenge against the people who kidnapped and tormented her as a child leads her and a friend, who is also a victim of child abuse, on a terrifying journey into a living hell of depravity.

I don't know why I watched this all the way through. I'm an idiot, I guess. IMO, it's Torture Porn. If only the high-brow, artistic, deep and thoughtful can understand and appreciate this movie, I'm definitely not it. ;;D
