I just happened to catch an article on the story over at Entertainment Weekly. I came here to post a quick thought, but first, was the date of release changed to an earlier day in the month, or was it always supposed to be released this week? Also, can I get this at a bookstore?

What I wanted to write is this: the premise, of which there are now more details, sounds incredible. I know this is a cliché and most people probably hate this term, but seriously, this is classic King. I don't know what else to say. Really seems like this is going to be an excellent read. For Bev: do you think this will be adapted in some way, maybe for the Castle Rock series? I know one thing: Chizmar, for obvious reasons, should do the adaptation if it is.

As someone on the board pointed out, King does seem open to doing these kinds of collaborations. I know the Patterson comparison would be unpopular, but if King did more collaborations with his family and friends, it might be the start of something very significant in his career of distributing storytelling ideas to the masses.

Yes, you can get it at regular bookstores. The printer was able to produce the copies ahead of schedule, which is why the pub date was advanced.

I know that JJ Abrams has read the story -- he gave them a nice quote for the website ("Man, I love this story! The whole thing just races and feels so right-sized and so scarily and sadly relevant. Loved the characters... and the sense of one little girl's connection to the whole world through this weird device. It all just sang.") -- but I don't know what the adaptation plans are, if any.

Bev, thanks for the reply and the info. Let me ask, as a King scholar, what do you think of his recent collaborations? He hasn't done many, but do you think this is something he could do more of in the future? Certainly not a new thing, as other big authors have collaborated -- Asimov famously collaborated on Nightfall, for instance. If King was able to get more ideas out there, would that be a good thing for the legacy of his bibliography?

....I don't think the legacy of his bibliography is in any kind of danger of EVER being considered paltry.....

Mine was downloaded to my Kindle when I opened it up Monday night. Keep forgetting that the midnight EDT release comes to me at 9:00pm. I opened it and read it in one sitting. So many questions!

Gotta tell ya, when the man gave his name
and it was an R.F. name
I expected a little more. But I grant that this book may tie in to others in time.

Thanks to Cemetery Dance, Richard Chizmar and Stephen King for putting this out. It was a nice way to spend an evening.I enjoyed the story but felt it could have been fleshed out a bit more. Ten years is a long time to cover in a little over 100 pages. Chizmar and King's writing styles meshed well for this collaboration. One thing that felt off to me
Richard Farris as described in the first chapter doesn't really feel like the same character that comes back later in the book (or the Flagg/Man in Black character we've seen before).

Think Jekyll and Hyde personality. RF, either character- other levels, other worlds. Ever changing.

I wanted more, too. But, we always want more when it comes to a King book. I read the first chapter two nights ago and finished it last night. It's a good read. I enjoyed it.
