The Darkside of the Moon (England really)
I finished duma key a few weeks ago for the 1st time and have to confess that I too thought Elizabeth was black until I read "...had she been a little black girl".

To add to the strange and varied imaginings of wireman, I pictured him as an old time gunslinger with a droopy moustache, don't know if he is ever described as having one. I saw a chunkier version of landon ricketts from red dead redemption.

This picture shows wireman with Roland deschain (I can only picture John marston when reading about Roland).

latest

Maybe I need to stop thinking about red dead redemption.

Elizabeth Eastlake isn't black.

For some reason I always assumed she was black while reading this. I caught the "black help" line this time around.

It doesn't change the (amazing) story any for me, but I was a bit surprised.

That's funny, I sort of got that in my head too. That Libit was a light skinned black child that her family passed for white. I wonder why? I assumed it was just me. That's very odd. Can someone shed some light? Really a brilliant novel though. To me it proved Stephen King was still at his full powers even after his terrible accident. Full & then some.

Bryan Cranston as Edgar. Jeff Bridges as Wireman. I really liked this book.

Jeff Bridges, or heck, even Beau Bridges would be phenomenal for Wireman! For Edgar, I see someone more like Richard Jenkins. Fine actor, and a guy who looks like he could've been working in construction for 40 years. He could kill in that part.

I pictured Wireman as a George Carlin type.

Y'know I usually take the descriptions of people in novels fairly literally. I guess some people go with the personality characteristics first, then factor in the physical attributes, but I do it the other way 'round. If I'm recalling correctly, Wireman was middle-aged, a bit overweight, with an unruly mop of hair. If was going to choose a "life-force challenged" person like Carlin, I'd say John Ritter. He'd have been great. And since he starred in "IT", that would made it even cooler.

Man! Interesting choice. Your mind is a strange place! But I somehow don't see Wireman. Good actor though. I was watching him in 'Better Call Saul' last year. Edgar certainly could've used him -- he'd have taken out all the wraiths single handed with nothing but a silver teaspoon!

Undoubtedly! I always remember this actor as the bad guy's capo in Beverly Hills Cop. He's always been a badass.

I think to find a Wireman, ultimately .......

"Do you think you can reload fast enough to shoot all three of us?"

"No, Emery, "I'll settle for you."

You need an actor who can convincingly deliver that last line! We have some pretty good candidates here. And moderators, seriously! If I can't post those few tiny words, delete the entire post! Don't leave "spoiler" with just a few punctuations around. For one, it's not a spoiler! For two ... it's not a spoiler!

My mother-in-law gave my husband a copy of Duma Key some time ago (she passed in 2010) and it sat in different bookshelves in three homes before I picked it up in 2013.

I devoured it! Our copy has slight water damage, parts have broken away from the binding and I keep reading it. It now lives on my dresser. I travel with it on Kindle. I can't count how many times I reread. At least a dozen. It's easily in my top 5 list...but my favorite SK is whatever I have in my hand right now.
