Hi everyone, first time iv posted, but long time SK fan, the long walk was my first SK adventure, and it's probably still my favorite.......I, as well as you, recently found out that Idris Elba has been confirmed as the gunslinger in the upcoming epic story that is the dark tower...........now I wasn't best pleased with this choice of casting..........I'm not racist and I am probably , ignorantly un PC without really meaning to be, bit I couldn't see it working........however, I have recently watched Luther......and he is a top actor and I'm warming to the idea of him as Roland......if it was up to me it would be Guy Pearce, or Viggo, but like I say I can see Idris doing a good job.......anyone else agree ??

yep must admit i was torn apart when i heard "Idris Elba" got the gun-slinger part, turned me off straight away its not the book is it i thought. But after seeing him in the trailers he does fit the part, and now just seen the movie he does a good job in it, pitty mr king never wrote roland has a coloured man, many more of us would have excepted him better.

To term an African American as "coloured" is generally considered not only antiquated but offensive, even with the "u" thrown in. Just sayin.

As Idris is British, perhaps POC would be more appropriate to use? (He's not "African American", as he's not American.)
I agree with Danie though, using the word "coloured" to describe someone's ethnicity isn't accepted as an appropriate term.. and hasn't been for some time now. Your profile ( neversayBOO ) says that you're 37-years-old, so this is probably not news to you and with that in mind, it might be safe to assume that you've chosen that word deliberately, perhaps to get a reaction?

If you want to be offensive, there are other boards than these.

I have to give this movie two reviews. First, if you are not a reader of the DT books it is a tight, well made action/fantasy film with amazing landscapes and vistas. Good narrative, a bit of wry humour, plenty of pathos. Second, ir you are a fan of the DT books, I have to give it a fail. There were plenty of DT references. Plenty of SK universe references, but nothing in the movie happened in the books, except for add bits and bobs and that, IMO does not make a DT movie. That said, if a second one were to be made I'd probably give it a go just to see where they went with it.

Precisely, especially the second part. DT readers were left out in the cold completely. Apparently the producers thought the movie wouldn't make back its investment if it catered only to SK fans.
Nonetheless the movie can still be made. Only this time film it as DT 1, The Gunslinger.
