Scott needs to get a head count on those coming, so as he start to pursue activities and the like-he'll have some idea what to tell his contacts...

he's already think on the tee shirt idea:...I'm thinking since Shawshank was filmed there, that I'll look into neon orange shirts with an "inmate" number on them and "Shawshank State Prison" on the back...and King Kon(con)2014 somewhere on it...

and the Stephen King store at Cafe press has one example available already-
Stephen's Shawshank Design : The StephenKing.com Store

So here is the official place to sign up, check back for updated info, and get ready for this summers adventure.

Was something wrong with the REGULAR King Kon thread?

Seems the "regular" was confusing, saw some members unsure of the date. With a OFFICIAL with date and location in the first post, confusion will be less, and thread cleaner for info.

Suggestion for the KON: Maybe some of you could record speeches or messages from the members to us on your phones and post :) I sure wish I had recorded Scotts speech last summer, it was beautiful. PS take LOTS of photos

Quote from Scott when answering a question about accommodations.....

...honey, there hotels everywhere and campgrounds for those so inclined...I'm working on getting with the Visitor and Convention Bureau gal up there to help me with web links and such...stay tuned with the King Kon 2014 thread...that's going to be the "official" spot now...

Now that the date and place are set, an Official thread will make it easier for Scott to have all info he needs in one place, as well as the SKMB members being able to go to the Official thread for needed info to confirm their plans.

Is the Kon making arrangements with anyplace to give us a group discount? Anything like that?
...cool out sweetie...I'm just now getting the wheels in motion...just today put a call into the Visitors and Convention Bureau Director so I can start getting things squared away and info posted-most places require 25 or more for a discount, and right at the moment it's 8 counting Tracy and I...had to have place and dates before I could get started...meanwhile, here's their official link www.mansfieldtourism.com....

Kind of a catch 22, isn't it? It's hard to make arrangements when you don't know who's coming, and it's hard for people to commit before they know how much it's going to cost or where they're staying.

Looks like there's a lot to do. Not just the prison tour and Shawshank city tour, but also cool shops and carousel park downtown and the bird sanctuary, to name a couple. It should turn out to be a nice little weekend.

At the last Kon, a group of us all rented a cabin and split the cost (worked out to $100 bucks each for the WEEK). Worked out great. We got our cabin from vbro.com (renting an entire house), but other friends used airbnb.com (whole house or room only). There are so many ways to get a great place to stay!

edited: cause the stupid links didn't work. LOL

Wow. Both Travelodge and Super 8 Mansfield are less than 50 bucks a night. Free wi-fi, breakfast is included, and pets are welcome at both. Not bad, even without a discount.
...yeah honey, I feel like Joseph Heller fer sure...I am planning on trying to get Tracy and I into the Country Inn and Suites...we've stayed there before...rooms are nice, breakfast in the AM and it's right in the heart of all the shopping...

Yeah. The two I mentioned are maybe 6 miles down the road. Not in the heart of downtown. So there's a 10 minute drive involved, but well worth it for the price, I think.
