I have read this book over fifty times since my first reading it in second grade. This scene has never bothered me.

And I think the main reason is that I firmly believe as a reader we should go on the journey the author takes us on, and accept it the way they presented it.

To look back 31 years later and judge tiny sections of a huge story just doesn't make any sense to me.

Sometimes a swamp is just a swamp and an act of love is just an act of love; be it carnal or for unity.

Good thing this is not in the miniseries or in the movie of 2017. Someone who has read the book IT, knows what page this happens?

I am very grateful that i hadn't read this story. I would probably put the book down before i finished it. I do love so many of King's books. I just know, no matter what the reader's take on this sex scene, or what they believe it means to them, i know what it would mean to me. It is just too disturbing for me. Not acceptable to me.
So, in my opinion...Free-will.. don't read it. If you don't agree with something or find certain things unacceptable... then don't buy the book, don't read it period. King is his own writer, we are his readers. Why should he change how he writes or what he includes at the time to suit our needs.

So, yes... as I stated in my post... I did not read the book. Sounds like u were confused. Glad u asked me.
I stated what it would mean to me...judging by what has been written by the explanation by Stephen King, what has been written by members here, and the articles out there on Google.
I posted about my opinion, below what is unacceptable personally to me, about "Free-Will... and this would go for anything he has written, or anything anyone else has written. Don't like what someone writes, don't read it period.

Since you seem to not be getting my point and like to argue.. my "Opinion" is about free-will. I have read the excerpt from the novel about the "sexual encounter" between the young children and stated that to "Me" it is unaceptable in my morals and values. How are other people's opinions affecting mine when it comes to this. These are facts, not opinions. Doesn't even make sense what u said. Peoples opinions are what they take from and look into deeper meaning of this act. Not what was written. When u can tell me that there was no sexual encounter between the children in this novel then i would agree with you that i based my facts on other peoples opinions.

You've formed an opinion based on other people's opinions - not your own, and without reading the book.

You both have had your say and made your positions clear. Let's move on.

Wilmington DE, strange little place.
I AM SO HAPPY , I am one of the IT crowd , meaning IT is my fav SK book and to me its like the basic yard stick for his other works.
I did not like the mini-series in 1990, Tim Curry was the only good thing about it.
it was an 'after school-speachel ' very much like those from 1977

But this....THIS is what i have wanted for 30 years. its not EVERYTHING that I have wanted, but its more then good enough.
I am very disappointed that there's no Ritual of Chud, no 'cosmic scale' scenes of evil and good,[ this was bi-pasted for the movie .] -that is a disappointment
and the lack of the sewer-sex-bonding-scene is a blow also, but it is to be expected in this very strange time we live in

I am gonna see it in the Theater , with or with out my wife, [it maybe more then she would enjoy] Its all so a BIG DEAL to see
'scary movies' that are ACTUALLY scary,
many Movies are not ,... they are scary movies made for people that don't really LIKE scary movies
The miniseries is an example and that Anna-bell-doll sh\t is another damn fine example of non scary , scary movies. it was a trend for awhile...

Stranger Things; and this movie [MAYHAP] hopefully will start and continue a trend in Hollywood for
ACTUAL scary movies and Tv , ...let us pray, if Ka wills it

I have carefully read every post in this thread. I have a thought experiment for you. Replace Bev with Bill. Reread all the posts with that in mind. Does it change how you think or feel? (I'm not making judgement or even declaring my own thoughts.)

i can't quite tell if you're going for emphasizing the double standards that tend to exist when it comes to how people view sexuality in girls vs boys, or trying to imply that people would (or should) be outraged if it was an all male scene. vagueness is not your friend in this case.

Neither. The posts here are from intelligent people. I am genuinely interested in people's responses to the thought experiment. I'm not making a declarative. Would it change your defense, ambivalence, or outrage to the scene?
