I may have to re-read Mr Mercedes. I'm not recognizing divergences. Whatever they are seem to conform with the storyline. I'm curious, can you post a couple divergences in a spoiler? :)

There are a lot of differences, mostly expansions to the book. Ida Silver doesn't exist there, for example, so anything involving her is an invention. The changes will become more obvious to you as time goes on. The nature of Brady's final action is totally different, as well as who ends up being present. A lot of the stuff with Brady and his boss doesn't happen in the book. Brady and Bill never have video chats in the book. Bill's perceived "erratic" behavior (pointing a gun at the trespasser, for example) is new. All the stuff with Bill's daughter is new. The list goes on.

...Lou doesn't exist in the novel....

Isn't she Freddi Linklatter? I thought they just changed her name for some reason because it's still one of his coworkers, who's also a techie on wheels and she's gay. Fredericka Linklatter (part of her name was this exactly) was in The Silence of the Lambs (Jodie Foster visited her bedroom and saw the serial killer's house next door and that's what made him visit). I think the name change might have had something to do with using a name from such a famous movie. But to me, it is obviously the same character. I think King's use of the name Freddie Linklatter was a wink to Thomas Harris, to whom King dedicated the book.

Now Ida's character nor any iteration of it did not exist at all in the book.

All the characters do and say things in the movie that are very different from the book but none of it is hurting my enjoyment of this series. It's fabulous. I also really loved 11.22.63 on Hulu. Heck, I joined Hulu just to watch that series!

It's just amazing how we all read novels and picture them as movies when we read them. I think that's why I really enjoy reading more than watching movies or television.

Oh! Thanks! I thought I just wasn't remembering those things lol. They add to the story nicely :) How many seasons do you think they have planned? Do you think the series will stop at the end of Mr Mercedes or will they continue into End of Watch?

Brendan Gleeson is excellent as Hodges. Great actor and, as I said somewhere, I was delighted when I heard he was playing the part.
Nice to see another Irish Constant Reader, doowopgirl. I'm just up the road in Drogheda =D
I'm in Dublin, so it really is just down the road. I'm glad to hear Brendan keeps his Dublin accent without overdoing it. I liked his explanation in last weeks episode.

Poor Holly hasn't experienced much love or kindness in her life :(

Could that have been Frobisher in bed with Brady's mom? At first I thought it was a dummy but burnt dummies don't leave skeletons.

It looks like the 'Round Here concert is next week. I love the pacing of this show - it's not too fast and it's not too slow.

I didn't think I'd ever like a series more than I liked Breaking Bad but Mr. Mercedes wins! :) The season finale (which is also the finale to the first book in the trilogy) couldn't have been better :)

I was expecting Brady's eyes to open like they would have in a low budget horror movie. I was glad when they didn't lol.

I really loved the series too! It's no Breaking Bad (IMO), but I think they did a great job, especially the casting of every character.

...I was enthralled from the onset of last night's season ender....WOW!.....changes made, yes.....still a hell of a story, yes......

I have to put SKs movies/TV/Miniseries in a different category than his book. Yes, tons of changes but it was so well done and it all made sense. Plus, now I'm very interested to see how the other books in the trilogy will be handled as a series. I hear that's coming and I cannot wait!
