Dana Jean, you are so right; there are a ton of poor psychologists out there and I've met my share. I'm not really a clinical psychologist; I teach psychology and human development to college students but my primary work has been with children who have survived sexual abuse. That is what feeds my soul. And thank you for the warm welcome. I appreciate it.
You will be blessed for your work. Good job! I'm proud of you.

Welcome back melindaville . Strong family here on the SKMB. Love and green lights.

Thank you so much, Spideyman. I definitely remember you. :) Truly, all of you are wonderful people and I knew that before. I appreciate your understanding as much as anything else. I never stopped being a SK fan--I became a bigger one, if anything. I spent a lot of those five years reading his novels. I'm so glad he is a compulsive writer. :) We are so lucky to have been in a generation with 'The King' and he really is. He's the King of modern writers--not a person can beat him. How amazing to be blessed with that much talent!

Hi, Melinda,
Didn't realize you'd been a member since 2011 when I posted on your profile page! Welcome back. Glad to hear you've overcome much adversity to come back to the board.

Hi Everyone,

Please believe me when I say that I am not trying to make a dramatic post here but I'd just like to reintroduce myself to everyone.

I don't think most people would remember me but I posted here quite a while back and with some frequency.

I've had a rough five-year patch. I suffer from depression and have gone through a particularly hard spell for the last five years. I talk openly about this because it has been a lifetime struggle and there is such stigma surrounding this (and other mental health issues) that I think it's important to 'normalize' depression. After all, more people missed work due to depression last year than all other physical illnesses alone (although depression can have physical symptoms as well as psychological ones). I have learned much in the last five years though--about myself, about how to treat depression before it has a chance to settle in, and about mindfulness and being grateful.

There are so many nice people here and some of you have been so lovely in welcoming me, whether you remember me or not. I remember most of the long time members and it's really great to see everyone again.

xo, Melinda (aka melindaville).
Welcome back melindaville, I'm so happy to hear how well you're doing, I used to suffer from severe anxiety, it was debilitating.
The difference you're making in the young lives you work with will be life-changing, it's such valuable work.

It's really nice to have you back, I've been enjoying your posts.

(as an aside, you mentioned earlier that you'd had a period of homelessness, was that during (or just prior) to the time that you'd spent previously here on the MB? It's just that I have a memory of one of our MB members living in a car, they were going through a really rough patch, it was very sad)

Welcome! I am glad that you are so open about your struggles. Congrats on overcoming them. My mom is a child psychologist, and I understand how much pure dedication this profession takes.
I have overcome a lot of demons, and although I'm not always open about my past struggles here, I can relate. The members of this board have helped me overcome some serious rough patches in my life.
I'm glad to meet you.

Hello Melindaville! One more welcome from a guy who has been diagnosed as both a fool and jester. It was a self diagnosis. Okay I'm lying...it was the wife. Did you know that if you shift the letters around in your avatar name you get 'villeMelinda'? Those wacky anagrams get me every time. All the best, lam

Sounds like your wife is a pretty smart lady! :) And at least it's not 'VileMelinda.' :)

I've had a few bad patches--and the worst was in the mid-90's. This latest, I had great support but just a lot of things happened that overwhelmed me (deaths of people very close to me). My heart goes out to anyone who is homeless; those were the darkest days of all. Every person should have a home, particularly in this, the richest country in the world. Thank you so much for the warm welcome. :)

Thank you so much. You probably know a lot about psychology yourself. My husband's mother was a psychologist and he is so well versed in the subject. The members on this board are the nicest of any board/forum/whatever. People here are truly nice, which is really such a great reflection on the wonderful Mr. King. Thank you again.

Hi there l am a newbie :)
l understand you l have suffer deprssion for most of my life, now it has degenerated into a borderline personality desorder, this very year l almost succedeed into ending my own life. I have scars in my arms from the cuts that l have made myself and still my brother and others tells me and treats me like this is my fault, like l am faking it or that l am just a big lazy because l sleep so much, or that i have gaing so much wieght just because l eta a lot and because l am giving untiphsicotics that are proove that can make you put on weigh. Only my mom seems to understand that l am sick, and that l did not choose to be sick, and that l can not choose when l will get better, if l ever do. l can only keep taking my medication and going to teraphy and keep struggling and hope things will be ok in the end.

Thank you for sharing and allow me to share.
