Nipular pics!:clap:
:semi-twins::glee::hopelessness::laugh:

I'm glad to see that grin willard is getting in some hot water - that used to happen to me in the beginning before it was pounded into my thick skull that this is a "family site" :cheerful:
:big_smile:

I think it was Isaac Asimov who once called Harlan Ellison, "The only living organism who's natural habitat is hot water." :pick_nose:
Jeeze Neeze, You're killing me! When I read "family site", Gerald's Game immediately came into my head! I get what you're telling me, and there is a term for it, but "family site" ain't it. And thanks for summoning me, by invoking my name like one might a despised bridge troll! Seeing the thermostat joke again gave me my first good laugh of a very long day -- and it was my joke! :facepalm_smiley: Neesy, I wish I could've read some of the stuff you posted when your skull was thicker!

I can think of several directors I don't want anywhere near a SK adaptation and Tim Burton is in the top 5, if not the main one. He's a talented guy...when he's doing his own thing. He doesn't have a great track record when it comes to adapting established properties. His Planet of the apes was a travesty, and don't get me started on what he did to Dark Shadows. I vowed never again to pay to watch a Johnny Depp film after that one (let him pay for his own divorce; leave my money alone). Burton is one of those directors that can't quite strike a balance between honouring the source material and his own ego. A big fat NO to Tim Burton and SK.

Tim Burton is way too fond of Johnny Depp. Sweeney Todd would actually have been good if it wasn't for Depp. When he acted he was good, when he should sing he was a disaster. Helena Bonham Carter made it but Depp did not. Burton must have known that he couldn't sing at all and still cast him in a leading singing part. He might have managed a supporting singing part but as a lead he was horrible and destroyed that, otherwise promising, movie for me. A pity but it was Burtons own fault. He sunk his own movie.

And his planet of the apes was true drive straight into the ditch. Possibly the worst adaption of the story.
Yes, I for sure didn't like the female ape (Helena Bonham Carter who quickly became Mrs. Tim Burton) giving ol' Marky Mark the come hither look, if ya know what I mean? :barf:Bestiality has no place in these movies.

Not to speak of Mark Wahlberg in the lead. Talk about wooden. They could have exchanged him with a moving wooden statue and noone would have noticed the difference. (And i do know what you mean)

What I found truly amusing was that there was like 12 hours of 'extra' stuff on the other disc. Sweet Jesus, the movie was only 2 hours long....

Ok, something positive! We have to go back a bit then i'm afraid. His 90s were good with Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare before christmas, Mars Attacks and Sleepy Hollow as tops. Then he started to lose it. Corpse Bride was the last movie of his i enjoyed. Sweeney Todd could have been good if Depp wasn't miscast in his role and after that he tries but does not really make it. Sad.

Okay, I have to say I loved Sweeney Todd. And I thought Depp did a fantastic job in it. As well as HBC. I went and bought the soundtrack!

That last line -- ouch! Do you want JD to lose one of his Scottish castles?! I work with a girl who thinks Depp is all that & a Nutty Buddy, she would not be pleased. The Burton PotApes a travesty? Apparently Steffen, You're a gentleman. It deserves much stronger language than that. Luckily I am not similarly fettered. What a reeking heap of monkey dung that was! How do you get so many things wrong? I guess you do it by being too afraid of offending anyone you don't adhere to any real point of view. As Ebert said in his review, "The 1968 "Planet of the Apes" was made before irony became an insurance policy." Dreck I tells ya, Dreck!

I'll be a little kinder to Dark Shadows. I actually liked it. It had it's moments. It struck me, Depp was several years older here than Jonathan Frid was in 1966, but somehow lacked his maturity. But if you look at the film as an homage (oh, how I love using 'h' as a vowel) to the old series, one that cost 100 times more to produce than all 1000-something original episodes combined, it kind of works. The "stoned" joke from the trailer was a nice hook to get those crazy kids in the door.

As an actor he did. Its not his fault that he cant sing.

Pearce Brosnan couldn't carry a tune if Blofeld suspended him over some sharks, but he was somehow better in Mama Mia than a real singer would have been. I know the two situations aren't comparable, and I haven't even seen Sweeney Todd, I just wanted to get in the mix.

Quite true. I remember a comment Stellan Skarsgård made when asked if he could sing. He was a bit mystified and answered truthfully no, why? Would you be interested in a role in Mamma Mia? Yes, i can sing, in a movie you can do anything! He also remarked that he and Pierce and Colin were basically the girlparts in an ordinary movie. We were the love interests of the real leads. And he meant Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried. And they managed the singing. Supporting parts can get by without being able to sing in a movie but the leads has to be able to sing. I think thats the main difference.

Stellen was on TV in Sweden at 17 and I could have sworn I saw where he did a teen heartthrob album in the 80's but I don't see anything about it. Uhhh, maybe it'll turn up.
