Not a Pinto but I had two Vega's. They were fun little cars.

My Aunt had one of those and used to take me to school in it. The rides to school were my introduction to David Bowie. She had an 8-Track of Ziggy and I remember I loved the song Suffragette City. I would get in the car and say, "put the hey man song on." She probably got really sick of that song because that's all I ever wanted to hear. ;-D

This little car was very popular in the 70ies. I did drive one of those back then, just for a road test. But when I read Cujo, I didn’t want to own or drive it anymore. Gave me the creeps.
My boyfriend had a Pinto in '80. I did more than drive his car. Lol My first boyfriend drove a Maverick. Obviously, I'm not impressed by stuff.

We had a Pinto. It was fall of 1982. I was pregnant. Our car died and we needed something to last us until March. Here's what I remember.

We paid cash for the car.
There was a wooden board under the gas pedal to prevent the drivers foot from ending up on the pavement. (I called my husband Fred.)

Driving to the hospital in ice rain someone cut us off. We spun 3 donuts through the intersection and continued on our way. Driver of the bus that almost hit us probably needed to change his pants.
Bucket seats and labour pains do not go well together.

We were walking to the parked car one day and two teens were sitting on our car. A third was standing beside it. He swung a board at his friend who moved and he hit our car. Then he realized it was our car. He started rubbing where he had hit....apologizing....and he said "I'm sorry I...I....I can't tell if I scratched it or not" we laughed told him it was better he hit our car than the brand new Buick beside it.

We sold the car for about half what we paid for it. Told the young guy everything we knew that was wrong with it, but said there was probably more. He wanted it to fix it up. A year later, he had a beautiful car and it ran probably better than when it was new. We were really happy for him.

Hey you guys, thank you for all the feedback!Very interesting comments about little Pinto and other similar . Nice to hear from the Maverick too. I almost forgot they were hitting the roads almost at the same time. Blue and white most of them.

As I understand it, the Pinto, Maverick, the Mustang 2, and the Mercury Comet were based on the same platform. With the Comet being the most similar to the Pinto. After the gas tank explosions the Pinto was re-named (by the public) 'the reprehensible Ford Pinto'. "Introducing the 1978 ... Ford Reprehensible." :) I rode in a girlfriend's Grandfather's Maverick once. It was beautifully maintained. I sort of coveted it. The Comet was the coolest looking one.

My mom had a silver Pinto with a red stripe and red interior. We kept it until the "touch it and gas tank with explode" thing, then upgraded to a Chevy Citation!;-D I was too young to drive the Pinto, but I learned how to switch gears in a manual driving the Citation up and down our long driveway!:blues:

Kept your mechanic busy I take it........women drivers......sheesh. Can't find 'em grind 'em............

....this just begs for an “I got rear ended” quip...but far be it from me to suggest such a thing...

Bahaha. I wish I'd of thought of that line. Maybe not rear ended, but I think the hood had damage that could have been filed with his insurance. Indeed, I gave you the perfect lob to dunk. Well played.
