Does the movie spoil the book?

Wha....??? You didn't like the book? I didn't much care for it when it was first published because I felt King had 'sold out' and was going for the younger crowd but after a re-read years later it became a good book to me.

Funnily enough, Christine made me a King fan. It has a special place in my heart for that reason! But I reread it last year, and... blah. Just didn’t enjoy it. Way overwritten IMO. The movie streamlines the story pretty well I’d say.

If you've seen the movie, I've got a question. Is the movie Christine super faithful to the book (Enough to spoil it)? Because I'm fine with reading first if it is, but I'm also eager to watch the film if it doesn't ruin the novel, also because I'm not getting my copy in some time.
I would read the book before seeing the movie, however I enjoyed the movie quite a bit.

This thread reminded me that someone recently told me our local library is trying to ban this book.
Because of a sex scene?
It's been so long since I read it, I don't even remember that part. The person who told me is somewhat sketchy and unreliable, so I'm hoping it isn't true.

This is what is shown in the movie - I'd have to go check my copy of the book for any sex (I cannot recall any).

Thanks for all the replies! I'm pretty sure I'm at least gonna try the book. I'm very sure I'll like it because this book really sounds like it's right up my alley. If I just can't continue reading it (which I doubt will happen), I'll put it away for later and watch the movie. Thanks again, guys.

Stephen King also recommends audio books, so maybe you could try that option!

The movie also eliminates some of the ambiguity in the book by starting from the start that the car is the source of the problem whereas the book implicates LeBay's ghost. The most notable examples are that Christine only starts to regenerate after he dies and that the witness to the accident which kills Arnie and Regina said that there was a third person in the car wrestling for the steering wheel. The only overtly supernatural thing to happen when LeBay was alive was the incident in the carpark of the veterans' club.

The movie is pretty faithful to the book. I can't remember if there's anything that's changed. Oh, I think in the movie George LaBray's brother isn't even mentioned. If anything's different it's minor. Plus, the movie has Harry Dean Stanton in it so you can't lose!!

They leave out a huge part of the book in the movie. They could not add a certain key element

**** why how stupid.... the sex scene with Annie and Leigh is the same as in the movie. Annie goes under her shirt not over it like in the movie. And I think Dennis has sex with Leah, but king does not go into any description. Oh and Dennis mother has menopause.

I do wish the movie had all the deaths the book does. The book is much gorier, and the body count is higher.

The death in the book of Darnell was just awsome, but I can see how carpenter could not do it. The movie was done in like 1983 or something, but it was cool. Buddy’s death was awsome in the movie though. Better then the book

I really like Christine. I read it for the first time last year and it was my first book, it just blew my mind away. Not shure why it gets so much hate. I also have not re-read the book.

Wait a few years before you do a re-read. Things change when we get older. I know I liked the book better after waiting for about 15 years before I did a re-read.

If she does not know why it gets so much hate now that she likes it, imagine in 15 years when she likes it even more. It will be a complete mystery. :D
