Has anyone seen the movie adaptation? Is it any good?

As far as story collection openers go, this might be my favorite. This or “Willa.”

I saw the movie a couple of years ago and thought it was pretty good. I believe Christian Slater played Dolan and Wes Bentley was the narrator. He probably has a name in the movie.

I have just one more comment...

I like horror and mystery stories set in a time before everyone had a cell phone. I did wonder for a second why Dolen didn't just pull out his cell phone and call for help lol.
Agreed. Cell phones have limited horror’s possibilities. Imagine a novel like Cujo in the present day. One phone call and the whole crisis could have been averted. lol

Horror has to be so much harder to write these days with all this technology to deal with. Isolation is a big part of horror and it's almost impossible to be isolated anymore.

Long time ago. I remember liking, so did my husband.

Tinker calls Robinson Whitebread. I've never heard that term. Is it a term used in Maine?

I haven’t heard that term in years, but it was used here. Not usually as an insult, but it could be.

I didn’t finish the story. :( A little over half way and I’m enjoying it.

I wish the guys that repair roads here had his drive. Takes them a year.

Couldn't be here last night but I read the story yesterday. I have read it several times, and each time I like it better. I did not like it at all the first time I read it.

Maybe an age thing? I went back after finishing the story and read the intro. (Usually the first thing I read, but I was reading while the littles were napping, so wanted to get the story done.) That made me stop and think about the age of the book, because SK says he had believed a lot of things in his 45 years. Whoa, he was only a little older than I am right now when this came out....I was 19 when this book came out. Where does the time go??

But I enjoyed revisiting the story. I do think it is a ghost story in a way. He has all this drive for revenge, it takes an immense amount of patience and planning and then work at breakneck pace. And poof! Elizabeth quits speaking to him when it is done.

I know it is never spelled out exactly but in my head, Dolan is a mob guy.

I didn't even know there was a movie of this! I checked and it will be on tomorrow, going to record it and watch.

Interesting about radio station call letters! That was a little factoid I did not know!

I thought Dolan was a mob guy too - a John Gotti type of guy.

Is the movie being shown on a common network? I havn't seen it either.

There are a couple radio stations in the Dallas area with call letters beginning with a W. They're both old stations so maybe that's why. All the newer stations have call letters beginning with a K.
