I bought the DVD last Friday night and found that my DVD player was broken (it was a cheapie) and would only play it in black and white. It was just as good! I will watch it again when I get a new DVD player (most likely another cheapie).
Watching that film in b&w sounds like fun, actually.
I think it would be cool to see it in B&W. The deluxe dvd edition of The Mist has a B&W version (which I've never actually sat down to watch!).

It was good to see in black and white. Also a bit of synchronicity involved. I've had the 'Silver Screen' channel free for a month and forgot how good all those old black and whites were. Just finished watching 'The Fast and the Furious' which is about a framed guy stealing a sportscar with a women and entering a race to Mexico. I wondered if that was where the new 'Fast and Furious' movies evolved from. I think I'll be on an old black and white jag for a while yet.

The blu-ray is out here. The Netherlands usually goes together with France with dvd-releases (at least with the big studio films), so it also has the French title on the front. English filmtitles usually don't get translated here - I think they were until the seventies, but more and more people understand English over time, so they don't do that anymore.

I'm not sure about buying it right away though, especially if there is a director's cut coming. I might wait until that is announced. Sometimes I regret buying a film right away, like The Force Awakens, which came out shortly after the first release with a better one, including a commentary by Abrams. You're only other option is to double dip, which is expensive, because you're paying twice.
Chances are of course they'll only release the director's cut in the months leading up to the second film.

I can imagine it would be good in black and white, but a strange problem. Sounds like a problem of the tv rather than the player, I didn't know that could happen with dvd-players.

If I'm parsing the linked article correctly, this version will have the deleted scenes but they will be extra features (as opposed to being interwoven into an extended cut of the movie). That's a little disappointing, but I'm glad we're getting them at all.

Apart from making more money with a separate release, I don't get why they don't put those scenes back in the film rightaway or give an option to view the theatrical or extended cut on the same dvd. Now you'll have to wait for a director's cut with no release-date given or certainty that there will actually be one - no matter what a director says or wants, the studio can still decide not to release one.

It's all marketing- they WILL release the Director's cut at a later date. Trust me. Just like they did with the Lord Of The Ring's movies- first we had theatrical versions then came the extended cuts with the added deleted scenes. $$$$

It's hard to say what it is. Because there are movies that come out in different cuts rightaway when first released on blu-ray/dvd. The most recent that I can remember was the Poltergeist remake (although here it was hard to see the difference between the two cuts, but they were different).
And it's happened with more movies. So I don't know if it's just about the money, because apart from film-fanatics the public at large I don't think is all that interested in different cuts - unless there is a substantial difference like with The Lord of the Rings/Hobbit films.

So I don't know if it's about the money purely. It's just what they happen to have chosen to do, it seems. I can see no clear pattern in it.

A few people reported seeing my name in the Special Thanks section of the credits of one of the special features (Author of Fear | Interview with Mr Stephen King). Ms. Mod is also acknowledged here. Because they're listed alphabetically, I show up between "The Thomas Hill Standpipe" and Finn Wolfhard!
Really? I'm not sure I'm curious or vain enough to buy the movie just for that, though. My weenie gene is a lot stronger.

Yeah. I think you are right. My old flatscreen is starting to break down. It has long black lines running through the bottom. I tested a different input and can watch in colour if I use the old video, l-audio, r-audio jacks.

Yes, that's the one where we're located now.

It says they fear they draw weird people. But is that an actual concern? Because his house in Bangor very much stands out because of the fence and gate, but has it drawn many weird/dangerous people?

My idea always is: there aren't that many actually dangerous crazy people. It may seem that way because of fiction, but the amount of actual serial killers and people like that is fairly limited. I've never ever actually met people that were crazy in a way that was scary or seemed threatening - there are enough thieves and people who will try to scam you (and Internet is a great tool for them), but the amount of people that have a potentially dangerous mental condition is not that big in my experience.
