...I already smacked the credit card around some more, and ordered the slipcased edition....
I'm tempted to do the same but now that I know how long it takes to get the CD editions, I'm torn. One the one hand, it will look beautiful on my shelf. On the other hand, I will definitely have already bought and read the regular hardcover long before the slipcased edition ships.

I mean, really, what's the point of having cake if you aren't going to eat it anyway?

These particular books are not CD editions. I think they are the regular trade edition but CD makes slipcases for them (which I love). I don't think there will be too much of a delay on these. They may ship the book first and then the slipcase later.

There's a person or two from CD that post once in a while, so maybe they can comment on this.

I just read CD's announcement and it does state that the slipcases will come at a later date.

Is this one a novella or a novel? I got the impression that it might be a shorter work along the lines of Gwendy. The premise sounds a bit like Thinner meets Insomnia.
It's a novella. To be honest, I was surprised they're releasing it as a stand-alone but it's most likely too long to be published in a magazine unless they did it in a couple installments. The version I read was 27,204 words but I haven't seen the edits.

Only 27,204 words? Jeez... King can knock that out on a single trip to the can. :)

Anybody notice in the synopsis that the protagonist is named Scott Carey and is suffering from a steady weight loss affliction?Sounds like SK is updating The Incredible Shrinking Man,by Richard Matheson, sounds like this will be a nice homage to Mr Matheson..looking forward to it!

Interesting thought, Mikey. I wondered, too, if King was revisiting territory from Thinner or if the character's affliction was more symbolic. Sounds like it must be literal, though, huh? I'm ready for King to go back to the supernatural novels.

Yes,I think it has been discussed before that Matheson was a big influence on Mr K..as soon as I read the name,Scott Carey, and his affliction I was excited for this..a giant spider attack is probably too much to hope for though.. ;)
