I haven't read DC yet. Today i found an unread, mint, 1st edition at the flea market of all places. Go figure. But that's not what I'm impressed about. I'm impressed with the quality of the book itself. To not be a limited edition it has some nice features. Perforated side, Colored End Papers, Illustrations. Hope it reads as good as it looks

It's earily how close to my life this book is. I never killed him but I certainly thought about it! God in my heart wouldn't let me. He ran off with her. He also tried twice that I know of to kill me. It's amazing how manipulating he is. People turned on me like it was my fault. Watched movie today and kept thinking this is too close to home. I took care of my best friend who was a quad and he sued him for divorce! Our courts are so corrupt.

I've ordered the DVD,and should get it soon.LOVE Kathy Bates,so I'm hoping it's as good as you say..

:cower:
Pay close attention to how the director's use of color- for the flashback scenes the colors are vibrant and pretty while in the 'now' scenes they are dull and washed out with lots of greys. It's supposed to reflect Delores' mind set. This truly is an underrated film and Kathy Bates deserved to at least be nominated for another Oscar (and she should have won!). Some folks can't stand Jennifer Jason Leigh's portrayal of the daughter but I think she gave an outstanding turn here also.

I agree. I think everyone did a fantastic job with these terribly difficult subjects.

DC is underrated as both a film and novel. It's a good story! David Stratharian character is such a pos in the movie. Milk pitcher upside the head. I loved it!
To this day I cannot make myself 'like' David Strathairn in any movie he's done since Delores Claiborne. I don't remember seeing him in anything before DC so his turn as the abusive husband/father must have been so good that I can't get the sick feeling out of my mind when ever I see him in something else. I think he appeared in The River with Meryl Streep immediately after DC and I hated him in that one, too.

Ayuh! Everyone did an outstanding job in their roles. Kathy has the accent down perfectly and so does Christopher Plummer. I also love the woman that plays the rich lady. 'Sometimes being a b*tch is all a woman has, Delores.' Ye Gods, so much is left unspoken (but understood!) in that sentence, isn't it?

Started wathing this last night. I thought Bates was a bit young at the time to tbe playing Dolores. She would be perfect right about now and a better actor as well. Do not like Jennifer Jason Leigh in her role so far, maybe she'll grow on me. I thought the accents were also subpar.

Finished the film last night and my opinion of Jennifer Jason Leigh has not changed. Not well acted and kind of annoying. Her "mother" all the time reminded me of Adrianne Barbeau on Maud. Good movie overall but why didnt they end it like the book, explaining how Delores gave all the money away? An news paper headline would have sufficed.

I saw it over the holiday, too. Loved the book, then loved the movie. Kathy Bates was brilliant Just a mom who loved her daughter and did what she had to do. JJL, the arrogant kid who knows just enough to be dangerous. She got some comeuppance and needed it. King started finding true evil isn't supernatural, its just some people's human nature.
