I liked the mini-series when it came out (a couple of years after reading the book) even though it didn't hit a lot of the same notes for me. I think I was just excited to see it getting some attention. I know a lot of people really loved the casting of Flagg but he was not at all how I imagined him when reading the book. I'm curious to see what they do with the casting.

That's pretty much what I thought. With shows like Game of Thrones, which has breathtaking special effects, there's no reason we can't get a similar treatment for The Stand. Take on the full pallette of people and places, all those stories we love from the novel, and let it unfold the way the story wants to unfold.

Yeah, a series with a decent budget would be great. I wanted that for Dune too but it looks like that's going the movie route. I like Villeneuve but am a bit nervous about such a massive series being condensed into feature length films. The Stand could maybe be tackled in a 2-part movie like It but I still feel like a series will do it more justice.

2-part movie
Yeah, at least. IT is roughly the same length as The Stand but IT might not have worked as two films had the book had more than the seven central characters; we can lose beloved scenes from the book without actually disrupting the essential story. However, The Stand has so many moving parts, a wide range of characters and events, that it's difficult to remove any single plot point from its Jenga-like structure without it toppling, which is why I'm less convinced a two-parter would be sufficient for the silver screen.

He needs to capture the entire essence of the book, or it will never really be right. 4 movies doesn't cut it as much as I love the original. I can honestly see an entire series for this book, taking at least a couple of seasons, sort of the same way Under the Dome was done, except stay true to the book - perhaps an HBO or Showtime series or even Netflix or Amazon.

Love that image.... and thank you all! King of course, is my favorite author and my inspiration to write, though in a very different genre though I suppose I could give my stories a twist and turn them in the direction that he follows. No one can touch the King though!
