Disappointing that the authors never explain WHY it happened. This is a difficult book to read, too much descriptive nonsense that does not carry the plot forward in any way, too many characters that are not necessary. And then, after spending hours of reading, there is no explanation as to who Evie is, why she came, why it happened. Nothing to give the book a reason. This book lacks the compellingness of his other books, a real letdown. Stephen, please do not write with your son again, it is too laborious.

Hello, and a welcome is extended to you. Not all books are pleasing to all readers. This appears to be not meant for your liking. Explanations, closure are not always necessary. They are nice, but often endings can be left to ones own imagination. Why do you think Evie came? What does your minds eye perceive her to be? What purpose did this event have? All open- ended ending possibilities.

Welcome LindaLuLu, I get where you are coming from but sometimes the best part is your own considerations/conclusions. I haven't read much Dean Koontz but back in the day the several novels I did read, I was always impressed at how crazy supernatural things could get and then to be efficiently explained naturally at the end of the book. While I thought that it was cool he could wrap up impossibilities in science and chicanery sometimes it's better not knowing. All the best, mal.

Welcome to the forum. I'd like to respectfully suggest that you edit the latter part of your headline, as it could be considered spoiler material. (heck I'm still reading the book, and then I saw this, so, well...).

LindaLuLu (lol!), if you one day re-read you're liable to find you like the book quite a bit better. Author collaborations are, to me, not generally a great showcase for either guy's work. I wasn't a big fan of either of the Stephen King/Peter Straub books, although both are serious artists, and on some level geniuses, and I always find something brilliant in any work either of them produce. But I liked Sleeping Beauties quite a bit! Every period, adjective or nonce doesn't necessarily HAVE to drive the plot forward. Ever read Cormac McCarthy? It's raining "descriptive nonsense" and I do not want an umbrella!

Welcome. I can't say I agree with you. A lot of great stories don't give an explanation. I've never felt the lack of an explanation hurt. But what works for one won't work for another.

Lack of explanation or revelation. One of my favorite Hitchcock films is The Birds, which for me means, one of my favorite films (!), and it was criticized upon release for not explaining what caused the birds to attack, and for not actually ending the film. And the public showed up in droves.

I haven't read the book and I'm not sure why her title is a spoiler? it doesn't say anything to me other than something happens and she wants to know why?

I'm not sure either, that's why I said it could be considered one. I guess I'll find out after I'm done with the book. It's cool though. Not like the title "triggered" me or anything.

I'm so sorry, I didn't consider that others hadn't read it and I certainly did not want to spoil it for you. I appreciate all the feedback regarding leaving conclusions to the readers imagination, I guess I don't have much of one and couldn't think of a suitable ending for myself.

Thank you to everyone for all your comments, which I appreciate, and a massive apology to those reading the book if I have spoiled it for you. I understand what you all mean by leaving it to the readers' imagination, I don't have much of an imagination so was unable to consider a suitable ending for myself. The storyline is interesting and it poses a lot of questions. I think I may have enjoyed it more if I was part of a book club and could discuss the issues with others. It certainly is a thought provoking book. I thank you all for making me re-consider my comments and I will try to edit them now. Thank you also for the warm welcomes I have rec'd.

Hi Steffen, I have taken your advice on board and would like to edit my original comments, which are very harsh when I re-read them, but I'm not sure how to. Can you help? Thanks, Linda.

Following all the replies I have received, I re-read my original comments and you are right, it is not only insulting, but very harsh and rude. I am going to try and edit my post as I didn't mean to offend anyone. Linda.
