According to IMDb Dan Stevens, Chris Evans, Matt Smith, Jeremy Renner were considered. And John Cusack also was interested.

I wonder why they decided to do this for the cinema and Gerald's Game for tv. I suppose because it could be marketed strongly on the back of it being the sequel to The Shining.

Now comes the really fun part...who should play Abra, Rose, Billy, Dalton, Casey, Crowdaddy...and Dick, David, and Lucy....Abra will be tough. I can't think of any young girl actresses that would fit. What's really cool is that the ethnicity of Billy, Dalton, Casey, Crowdaddy...never specified, and can be ANYONE. I can see Denzel Washington as Crowdaddy. We all know he can play evil quite easily.

Probably the constant stalking, torture, killing of kids, along with the implied cannibalism of sorts isn't something TV, even the more adventurous cable networks, are willing to touch. I mean, you saw the outcry on Game of Thrones when Shireen Baratheon was burned alive....and how ATT changed the climactic scene in Mr Mercedes to make it more watchable than the book's climax.

No offense to Cusack but I'm glad he wasn't cast in this movie. He's a great actor but does he have to be in every King movie? Yeah, Thomas Jane has had a similar pattern but he's managed to look different each time and even had an accent in his latest one.

Cusack might be a horrorfan, because he also played Poe in The Raven.

Here's a thread of actors appearing in more than one SK film:

I think it depends on the actor. Kathy Bates, for example, can be a chameleon. She could have been pigeon-holed after her iconic performance in Misery but she proved she had no limits in her acting abilities. Cusack is just average, I think. He was outstanding in 1408 but otherwise I'm not impressed with him. Thanks for the link, all great reminders.

Finally saw Dr. Strange. Did it the right way, on acid. Holy freakin moly.

Can't control the river, man, just gotta let go and go with the flow, lose the ego and roll with it. Gotta bargain with Dormammu, can't defeat him.

Something like that...

Under the Movie Forum there's not a sub-forum for discussing "Doctor Sleep" and I couldn't figure out how to start one, so I'm posting here. According to IMDb, the film will be released 24 January 2020. Filming is taking place between late September and late November 2018, and I know this because:

:) How cool is that!
My wife noticed the fellow photographing our house and went out and talked with him. Unfortunately, she's not Stephen King savvy, and didn't understand the significance. When I arrived home and saw this noticed, I grinned for an hour. The chances of our house getting picked is probably slim, but still, even being considered, is an honor in my book.

BTW - SKMB member Bev Vincent interviewed director Mike Flanagan for the most recent issue of Cemetery Dance #76.

Only Jordan can start a new Forum but now that this looks like it's actually gearing up production, it's probably safe to do so. Thanks for the reminder that we hadn't done that yet.

Good luck with the selection process--keep us posted!

A thing I foresee about this movie is that some people will hear "Shining sequel" and think of it a sequel to the Kubrick film and be confused when they actually see it.
