I thought his drug problem got worse toward like 1985-1987? I always thought drugs came after the booze. Plus he has stated that he was writting an awfull lot of oops at this time, was this thenuear he like did 4 books in like a year and a half?

A six-hundred page novel in four weeks? I highly doubt that. Didn't he say on a recent interview a five-six hundred page novel takes about 1500 hours to finish?
Yeah, I know, but it's true. I read it in a book that was part biography and part commentary on his novels; can't remember the title. But here is a link to help corroborate this fact. (Third paragraph)

He certainly owes a lot to his wife, he wouldn't be one of the reigning kings of American literature if she hadn't rescued the "Carrie" manuscript from the trashcan
