James, The Triumph of Caesar by Steven Saylor, a historic mystery set in the Rome of the year 46 bc, the year he was murdered. Also some others that are more or less a shot in the dark. Had a productive weekend at the thrift stores. Here's my finds:

The Cal Ripkin, Jr. book is autographed and also came with a special baseball card. I'm giving this to my best friend's husband as Cal is his childhood idol. The Colin Powell book has an autographed sticker on the first page. I also found an unopened director's cut dvd of Amadeus, which I watched the other night. Sad movie.
OOOOh wish I could find a copy of that Secret Windows book! - lucky you

Came home with this treasure on Saturday from Goodwill. It's not a first printing but it is signed by the author and also Octavia Spencer, who won the Oscar for Supporting Actress for her role in the movie based on this book. I never knew that the author wrote the part of 'Minnie' with Octavia in mind. Whoever Grace and Anna are it's their loss and my gain! :D

That reminds me; three of my most priced possessions are Kenneth Grahams Wind in The Willows and two of Frank L.Baums Oz books. They are signed by Jack Vance, the very gifted SF-writer and it says "To the very good boy Kurt from his friend Jack Vance" signed in 1976. I was 11 years old and he was my fathers guest for dinner but he most have liked me for soon after he returned home a packet arrived in the mail from the states. Totally surprised me.

What a treasure! The illustrations must be gorgeous, and the Vance signature would certainly make the texts so special. Do you have the books displayed or do you keep them tucked safe away to prevent any damage? I'm never sure what to do with texts that hold special meaning. I want to keep them out so I can see them, but don't want them to get damaged by climate/sunlight.

Back before the holidays I found a copy of The Drawing of the Three at Goodwill. I think maybe it's one of the earlier editions, but the real treat was finding two photos inside the book (see below). The photos are so, so sweet (captions say they are from 1974; boy with the donkey is Stephen and the boy on the bars is Michael), but it makes me a little sad they were forgotten in the book. There's no address in the book, so no way to return the pictures. Love finding treasures in books, but photos are always a bit bittersweet.

I've come across photos left inside books numerous times. It does make me sad.

No showcasing. They stand in my bookshelf but i am very careful about them. I remember him (vance) as a very nice guy.
