Apparently there is a new series on Amazon Prime starring.....sighhhhhh.....Kate Beckinsale. It's called "The Widow". My wife actually saw the previews for it and suggested it. We watched four episodes of it last night. Do I know what it's about? Nah, not really. Apparently Kate's husband on the series has gone missing is some country in Africa, but he probably deserved to go missing imho. It's actually a really good series so far and Kate is as stunning as ever. That British accent and that smile, oh my goodness......a good series so far, would definitely recommend for a number of reasons.....

I thought of you when I saw the preview and remembered your past posts about Kate Beckinsale. :)

I did too!! Thought of our ghost19, that is - when I saw the preview!!

Do you remember that Thanksgiving (probably 2013) that we were crafting some kind of story together on the board - very random - something that started with a swinging bridge photo that Lepp posted, and ghost19 took it to new heights with the his rescue story of Kate B? I don't even know how to search for that. But I remember having a miserable time that Thanksgiving and being on the board that night with that silliness was just the cure.

I had forgotten about that story but, yes, it does ring a bell! That's probably what made his adoration of Kate B stick in my mind. I'm not sure that's still accessible because it was probably on the old Board and that's locked down.

How many episodes do others usually watch in a row from a series?

To keep up with series watching one episode at a time is rather slow. I watch usually four episodes in a row, after that I have to let things sink in a bit. That's when episodes are 40 minutes. When episodes are around an hour, I watch three probably.
It's not that sometimes I don't want to watch more, but some seires have so much going on that more than four just feels too much.

Some shows, like The Walking Dead, are leisurely paced, but others seem to try to put as much in one episode as they can. I have the feeling that many of the Netflix originals which run around an hour an episode take their time more. The extra time compared to shorter episodes, is used to stretch things out more rather than add more plot.

Depends, if I'm watching something with the Wife then it's normally one episode, two at a push.

I could watch 4 or more! Currently watching Ozark and watched three episodes the other night. It's good.

The problem with Netflix is they can take off series quite suddenly and only warn a few days before.

I was watching Sleepy Hollow (nothing to do with the Tim Burton film, apart from the source material), and quite recently season 4 was added, but now they've taken it off again and only left the first two seasons. The strange thing is they never seem to take off all seasons of a series at once, but gradually take them off for whatever reason.
So, now as soon as a new season of a series I follow is added, I won't wait too long before watching it. And watching one or two is rather slow, yet more than four is too much for me. After four I just have to let it sink in a bit - these people in shows have such intense lives, with so much happening to them.

I've had Netflix for about a year and a half now (initially signing on to be able to watch Gerald's Game), so far my favourite series have been:

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Lost in Space, Stranger Things and Bates Motel.

I've just started the last season of Bates Motel and I'm real curious how they bring in Marion Crane. They already brought n Sam Loomis, he has a hardware store, which I think he did in the original Psycho and the remake too. But I don't think you saw his wife in the film, and here you do. I wonder if they still link Sam Loomis with Marion Crane in a relationship as the original film started - in any case his marriage is bad in the series, driving his wife towards Norman.
You can see Freddie Highmore, who plays Norman, basing his performance more and more on Perkins' performance in the way of mannerisms.

I also like Nestor Carbonell a lot who plays Alex Romero, the rather shady sheriff, who seems essentially a good person, but who always is in a difficult position because of the drugs in his town. Actually the drugs is the main thing that wasn't part of the original film, but they need to expand the scope and it plays a smaller role later on.
What I like is that even things that I had doubts about, are all adressed at a certain point and make sense within the story. It all holds together rather well. And I like that you get to see what the right front room of the manor looks like (it's a dining room), because you don't get to see that in the original films. Actually they only moved the kitchen to the right in the back, where originally I think you could see it from the hall. Apart from that the manor looks fairly identical to the films.

But the stand-out for me is Vera Farmiga as Norma Bates. While this is clearly a psychologically troubled woman, she makes it very realistic. She never goes over the top. She is someone with psychological troubles who still manages to hang on and keep going despite all what happened in the past and is still happening.

I'm thinking the best way to watch series is just buy the blu-ray sets.
The problem always was that a lot of channels don't continue their series. They rather start something new, than finish broadcasting the old ones - for reasons not entirely clear.
But even Netflix disappointingly quickly takes series off again - and then for some reason leaves earlier seasons on for no apparent reason, and then slowly takes those off too.
Plus you get so many streaming services now, it would become very costly to subscribe to all those.

So in the end buying the box-sets where you can just watch them at your convenience and not be worried you won't be able to finish them seems the best option. And it happens very rarely that a series doesn't go to dvd or blu-ray.

Last night I watched the movie The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, a 1953 Science Fiction movie based on a Ray Bradbury story. I watched it again for the second time in about a year because I read that the actor Lee Van Cleef was in it and I couldn't remember (he's right at the end when they are a Coney Island). It's a good movie (it is nicely transferred to DVD) but it isn't as good as the Godzilla movies. I think the best Godzilla movie they made in the one in 2014. I also watched the little 16 minute documentary again filmed in early 2003 between Ray Harryhausen and Ray Bradbury. They have a few trailers of Harryhausen's films as well. I dont' think I've seen Clash of the Titans since I saw it last on television around 20 years ago.

I'd be happy if Netflix would just spend a wee bit of their profits to fix their bloody menu. I hate that it's so random and disorganised. I even have trouble finding stuff on my own list. There were films/series that I forgot I added, on account of their stupid menu that's not even sorted alphabetically. Then the shows got removed. Sigh.
