I was in a used bookstore here recently and I noticed this book published/printed by a place called Thorndike Press which prints/publishes large print books. The company is based in Maine. The book was printed in 1999 but it is out of print for that company according to their website. It is a Max Brand book.
Yep, I used to order from that press. I believe they are located in Waterville, Maine.

I read a lot of large print books - it's gotten so I order them from the library as they're much easier to read than the regular print ones.

This one is my latest:

Only difference is mine has an orange cat on the front.

Next I'll start "Blowing the Bloody Doors Off" by Michael Caine

The Lion in the living room is a doc on Netflix I think.

I must get Michael's book. He is my favorite actor and I've read his other books. Super interesting guy.

Has anyone here read The Beguiled by Thomas Cullinan? Thoughts?

I've watched the two movies based on the book that I have very very strong opinions about.

The brilliant movie with Clint Eastwood and perfect cast; and the ridiculous movie with Colin Farrell and milquetoast cast and whitewashed history.

I am about 2/3 thru reading The Library Book by Susan Orlean. This is a fascinating account around the devastating fire at the Central Branch Library in LA in 1986. Most folks have little to no idea that this even happened, especially if you were not in the area, because it's the same week as the Chernobyl disaster. Over 400,000 books were completely destroyed and more than that were damaged. Orlean paints a vivid picture of the fire, the history of the building and libraries in general, and the efforts to find the arsonist who started the fire. In a strange serendipity, I had just finished Fahrenheit 451 when I started this one. A good back-to-back choice. Recommend for all book lovers/library fans!

Do they find the arsonist?

I'm not quite done yet, but...
They strongly suspect someone but cannot prove it in a criminal case. Right now, he is suing the city for trama, etc, (possibly to get more attention) and they are counter-suing him with the hopes that since it's a civil case they have a better shot of winning with the lack of hard evidence.

So which movie did you like better? :)

I read the free read/download from Robert McCammon entitled The Pale Pipe Smoker that Rick released through his website. It's a short tale that takes place while the main character Matthew Corbett is out of the country and concerns two of the best written characters that have ties with Corbett. I loved it! If you're a fan of the Corbett books I suggest you waste no time finding this little gem of a tale and reading it. Enjoy!

I bought a copy of Bare Bones: Conversations in terror with Stephen King edited by Tim Underwood and Chuck Miller. I bought it in a used bookstore in Beaumont Street. I've read the section so far with King giving a talk at Billerica Library. And I've almost finished the interview in Playboy. The talk in the library pretty much just goes over what he said in Danse Macabre. My favorite quote of Kings in the library talk is this: "After Salem's Lot was published, one lady sent me a letter and said, "You know, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. I'm sending this book back to you. You really frightened me. I couldn't sleep for three nights after I read this."
I wrote her back and said: "So what. You bought it. I didn't buy it for you. I'm glad you were awake for three nights. I wish it had been six nights."
I also liked the bit where he says that George Romero came to his place while he was teaching at the University and they were talking about doing the Creepshow thing King says he wanted to do an introduction like the episode 'The Monster's are due of Maple Street' which is an episode of The Twilight Zone." (Scary episode about paranoia starring Barry Atwater and Claude Akins.) KIng uses the word 'warped' in the talk at least four times. He also uses another word quite a lot. I think I read the Playboy interview before. I like how KIng said when asked when he sits down to write he said that he stared at 8 am til around 11 am, unless he had a hangover.

On book two of a Bernard Cornwell series of King Arthur books. I fell in love with a series of King Arthur books by Mary Stewart yeard ago and that was the only version I'd accept. These are a different spin and do change the character types from what I was used to, but Bernard Cornwell is SO good that I have no problem with this version.
