While some of the criticisms from M_O_O_N are very spot on, I saw it in the theater 3 times.

I bought the Blu-Ray the day it was released and have watched it a few more times.

I love this movie and I'll likely be watching it again soon with my son.

I'm not a big screen watcher (I much prefer books,) but even for someone like myself who rarely bothers to see many movies to begin with, that's saying a lot.

Put simply, I disagree with you whole-heartedly.

I agree. When I first saw the trailers I was over the moon, when I saw the movie for the first time I was disappointed (it felt incredibly rushed and lame compared to the book), second time it wasn't so bad, third time I could finally appreciate it for what it is. And what is it that it is? A movie based on the novel. Once you get that, you can enjoy it. Speaking for myself, of course.

80's nostalgia is tired and rings false here, seemingly an attempt to grab some fire from "Stranger Things" phenomenon without really investing in the time period in any meaningful way.
.

I found the 80's thing to play a big role in why I prefer the reboot over the 1990 mini series. I was able to relate to them better since I was around the same age around the same time in the 80's. In short, I personally felt that the 80's was done very well in the film and I liked the little 80's references to late 80's films and the trends at the time. One amusing thing about the 80's bits was that Ben was a closet New Kids fan, it reminded me of a friend I had in high school in the 80's who was a closeted Paula Abdul fan. As for the film holding up, I've seen it several times and I still enjoy it. However, part 2 isn't out yet so I'm not going all out and saying IT is OUTSTANDING because part 2 could drop the ball.

Time will tell.....

... everyone is super, super nice ...

Totally. I agree 100%. And I love it.

... it seems the sensitivity level may be set to maximum ...

Nah! You should go take a look around the Politics section. 10000% disagreements over there, and yet people still manage to be friends.

I think it's mostly because many of us are around your age and up. We have learned it's not worth it to spend our time on drama like some younger folk still do. especially among friends.

Disagreements and almost-fights? Sure, why not. We are still friends right afterwards.

And some of these guys have been friends for quite some time. I am thankful that I am given the chance to come into the group and be received as one more member of a tight community of friends.

Just go look at some of the other sections here and you will see why people tend to be so nice.

... A horror fan might even imagine the kind of nice that borders on fear ...

That'd be very interesting. I wonder what Mr. King or one of our other resident writers might come up with from that starting premise.

I noticed everyone seems friendly here and there's no flaming or anything else going, or at least I haven't seen any. The only odd thing about this forum, the fact it is only open for what seems to be two days out of the week. I tried looking in the FAQ for why it isn't 24/7 but couldn't find anything. I'm assuming it is due to it being moderated and the moderators take time off?

The board is only open Tuesday and Wednesday all day and night and then Thursday until 4:00 p.m. eastern standard time.

Stephen's assistant and moderator only works those days. The volunteer mods fill in when she is finished for the day on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Starting in 2013, volunteer mods came on board and the community was open 24/7 with Marsha the paid employee doing normal business hours and then volunteer mods doing the off hours day, night and weekends.

For various reasons, that changed.

May I make a suggestion---- one of our members has kindly provided us with an alternate forum for when the SKMB is closed. Several of the SKMB members are here using their uernames or variants of it. Same friendly people, no flaming, and basic same guidance rules. Please feel free to have a look.
