So several times in reviews, I’ve read about a scene in the books where Victor warns Bill at Tracker Brothers that Henry is going insane. And that he almost joins the losers, but doesn’t and ends up helping Henry. But for the life of me, I don’t recall this. I have the first edition of the book, hardback, and the kindle version and can’t find this scene. Anyone know what I’m talking about?

....I’m pretty fuzzy on that whole scenario, but I thought it was in the portion at Tracker Brothers...not a super fleshed out bit, more like an aside....been years since my last re-read though....

Chapter 17 - Another One of the Missing: The Death of Patrick Hockstetter

He and Richie and Beverly had been down at Tracker Brothers - early August by then, and the summer-school that had kept Henry out of their hair for most of the summer was just about to end - and hadn't Victor Criss approached them? A very frightened Victor Criss? Yes, that had happened.

Maybe it's a topic for another thread but what else might many of us have missed? What are some things in IT that would surprise someone who has read the book a dozen times? I'd love to discover something new that unlocks some mystery across various books or expands deeper into the story. Wishful thinking, yes.

One example would be the voice Bill hears upon defeating Pennywise, congratulating him for his strength and perseverance. I've read on this site that it may be the White but it's only speculation.

Are there other details like this that would surprise someone who has read this book a dozen times? (I've only read it four times.)

What is often overlooked or forgotten is that it is Stan "the Man" Uris who actually initiates the promise. He is the one that goes and gets the coke bottle they cut their palms with. This is because Stan is already thinking ahead, and I suspect already knew he would not return. I think Stan knew already on some level that he couldn't face it again, but was too ethical and moral not to ensure that the others would be back. He knew, even back then, the implications of what he saw.

More to the point, Stan's very ordered mind didn't forget everything. Remember, his wife talks about the fact that he recognized Bill's name as an author of a book and clearly remembered and reacted to what he read. The others had seen that book and didn't make the connection until after the calls from Hanlon brought them back. Stan Uris may not have made it back to Derry, but without him none of them would have made the promise in the first place.

Good point. Almost like Stan is already thinking about checking out as soon as they all returned to the surface. There was something about one of Bill's books specifically reminding him of the experience underground, too, wasn't there? Even though he wasn't able to fully recall the memory. I may be mixing up details. I hadn't considered that. Good catch. Your posts about IT are always pleasantly surprising.
