Did you notice how Spike Lee was dressed at the Oscars in purple and he was holding the Love Symbol. BlacKkKlansman features Mary Don't You Weep at the conclusion.

The Pro-Black Bond Between Spike Lee and Prince | Pitchfork

Next released is Ultimate Rave:

Prince’s Rave Albums Are Getting Reissued | Pitchfork

I have the original album and the concert dvd, but not the remix album. Is the the remix album good, is it a big difference from the original?

I had just recently purchased the remix album off of Amazon but the sound quality is not great. It doesn't have enough highs and lows to it at all sound-wise. It's like they took their EQ controls and moved them all towards the center and called it good. The remixes were done by Prince and he really made them a lot funkier. I'm happy that I'll be able to get the remix album (Like you, I already own the original cd and dvd). I just wish that they (the Estate and WB Records) would get their crap together and release the last albums that Prince had completed. The fans need and deserve NEW music!

How did you get the remix album off Amazon? Was it not an exclusive of NPG Music Club?
Hopefully it sounds better on this new release.

I agree it has been a bit disappointing with the releases up til now. Would there be a chance they release other NPG Music Club releases, like The Chocolate Invasion or The Slaughterhouse to physical cd's?
I never became a member of NPG Music Club. I believe it was expensive and I don't like the idea of downloading music anyway. I like to have an actual cd-box with a cover, and a booklet with lyrics preferably.

Although Prince didn't do a whole lot of latin music, I always felt that Kid Creole was a bit of a similar guy and musician. I never realized (or had forgotten) that Prince actually wrote a song for him and played on it. It has a typically Prince title.

It was a small hit here in 1990, reached 31 and was in the Top 40 for 3 weeks.
Kid Creole and the Coconuts actually still perform live, they played here a few years ago.

Wow! First time I heard this song! It's definately a Prince song, fo' sho! I'd recognize that guitar solo anywhere. There's also this version from Prince himself:
Unreleased version

I would love to hear this one!

It's not on the upcoming Originals, probably because it's too unknown. They've concentrated on the well-known songs, which is smart from a commercial point.

How is it possible though that so many unreleased songs were already out as bootlegs? If he recorded them and put them in the vault, through what channels does so much leak out?
Then you get complaints about the unreleased stuff being something that's already known. But it's like complaining about stolen goods, because it's not supposed to be out.

There's still a lot I don't know on Originals, so can't wait for it. Strange they've chosen a picture from the Dirty Mind era, because they're not songs from that - but it's one of my favourite periods so I don't mind really.

Yes, the folks complain about every song that's been released (officially) because they already have a bootleg of it. As far as I know there's only one song that hasn't made it onto the bootleg list and that's 'Wally' or 'Wally's Sunglasses', depending on who the source is. I have some cd's that a friend brought over from Amsterdam back in the 90's and you can tell that they were recorded directly from a cassette tape source. One of the songs on there is aurally so bad because someone had hidden a cassette recorder right inside Prince's piano (which of course he didn't know about)! I think alot of the bootlegs came from dishonest engineers who would make copies of whatever was recorded and mixed after Prince would leave the studios he used outside of Paisley Park. The song 'Old Friends For Sale' is about that. I think that 'Thieves In The Temple' is, too.

This is horrible for not only Prince fans but music fans in general. Without the master tapes it is impossible to do a proper re-issue or a proper re-master, they can use digital files but the quality will never be the same.

The engineers seem the only ones who would have direct access to them indeed.
Is it also known why he would make fully finished tracks of songs that were meant for other artists? With the songs he knew he would give away, he could have just made a demo for the other artist.

So no one has an idea why he made fully finished tracks, when he could have made a demo for the other artist?
Did he do it in case he wanted to put it on one of his own albums too after all?
I would imagine that he had the songs sitting in the vault(s) already finished and then was inspired by a singer enough to give them a song and let them do what they wanted with it. He probably wanted to hear their version before they released it though, so there wouldn't be any trouble. Keep in mind that he has been quoted as saying that he recorded (fully) a song a day, so that's alot of songs that were sitting around gathering dust. He was also known to take old songs and years later tinker around with them and then release them on albums.

I see. I was under the impression that it was the other way around: that he would like another artist enough to write a song for them especially. But you think it was more that the songs already existed and THEN he took it out of the vault to give it to someone else - that WOULD explain the fully finished tracks.

It seems in some cases he clearly intended a song for an artist and still recorded a completed track himself. In 'Holly Rock' he sings 'My Name's Sheila E.', so it was always destined for her, but still he fully recorded it himself too. Maybe he just wanted to know how it sounded when it is was fully finished and/or he just enjoyed the process.
Apart from Sheila E. I didn't collect a lot of the other Prince-related artists like The Time and Vanity/Apollonia 6 etc. , so this album is a welcome addition. I must say in most cases I prefer the Prince versions. He's also always been among the more intelligible of singers, so for the first time I can hear the lyrics of some of these songs better.

This amazingly beautiful book is available for free from amazon if you have a kindle. Tons of lovely photographs of His Royal Badness!!!

There were a lot of books at the My Name is Prince exhibition here. But the most expensive merchandise was a tambourine with the love symbol - those were close to 100 euro! I had to ask the vendor twice to be sure I heard it correctly.

I listened to Musicology since a long time. Even though I liked it when it came out, it didn't become a true favourite of his later albums (unlike something like Planet Earth). I noticed though that many of my favourite songs on it are on the second half of the album: pretty much from What Do U Want Me 2 Do? to Reflection.
I really like those kind of smooth, bouncy midtempo tracks like What Do U Want Me 2 Do?
In terms of artwork it's among his best, the sleeve is impractical (there is no place to hold the booklet) but it looks very nice. The booklet is more refined than some of his others I would say, it's filled with all sorts of drawings and schematics to do with sound, and the photography of Prince and the band is real nice. I think it's the only time Candy Dulfer is pictured in a central photo as a member of the full band, if I'm not mistaken.

I wonder why the super deluxe version of 1999 (the 6 disc version) is so much more expensive than the deluxe expanded edition of Purple Rain. It's 2 discs more, but it's around 80 euro, where Purple Rain was around 30 euro.
Purple Rain felt on the cheap side to me though, but I find 80 euro a lot. And the concert on the last disc is again a dvd, not a blu-ray. I would find 80 euro reasonable if it came with a lavish book or something like that, but I think it will be a regular booklet with liner notes.

Could they have lost money on the Purple Rain deluxe, where it didn't sell enough? Or do they expect fewer people are interested in 1999?
