"When I sat down at Mr. Kipling’s beautiful desk I had the basic situation—crippled writer, psycho fan—firmly fixed in my mind. The actual story did not as then exist..., but knowing the story wasn’t necessary for me to begin work. I had located the fossil; the rest, I knew, would consist of careful excavation."
What was it that King wrote in these sixteen pages? Was it a fleshing out of the situation? Was it the character development? THIS part always gets me. Does anyone have an idea what he means by this?

....it is his wonderful way of describing how he had sketched out an idea some time before he began work on the novel, tossed the outline aside in favor of something else that had captured his fancy-and eventually came across his notes again.....the rest is now canon......

This I know, I am wondering what that sketch consisted of. It is tickling my mind with a terrific itch.

I would never attempt to speculate on what good King Stephen might actually write in his private notations of any kind.
But I imagine him making notes that build up those captivating characters and locations.
And then getting on to the meaty substance of the 'Story', and how he wants to unfold it and present it to us.Thats just what I think.
I'm a weirdo, so I toned it down alittle bit.
