Stranger Things Season 2
While I enjoyed this season more than the first, I certainly think it had a lot more problems than the first one. Here’s a bulleted list of things I want to complain about.

-Bob’s Death: Bob was definitely my favorite out of all the new characters introduced in this season, and I’m not pissed off that he died, I think it’s a good thing they killed off such a likeable character, to raise tensions and give the protagonists more motivation to close the gate, it’s jusy that the way he died was a bit stupid. Why the hell would he stop running??? He saw what the demodogs did to the agents in the tunnel, why would he assume a wooden door would stop like 6 of them??? It would’ve been better if he like, tripped or something while running, it felt like the only reason he would stop is so the writers could give a false moment of relaxation for the viewers and so he could die in front of Joyce. R.I.P Bob Newby, superhero

-The dialogue: Not really much here, there were moments in this season where the dialogue just felt kinda off, particularly Episode 4. I think I saw it most with Will after he got “possessed” by the Mind Flayer, maybe that was the point, but it felt kinda hard to take seriously.

-008 and the Gang: they’re the first things shown in the season, and they only appear in one episode? These characters didn’t need to be in the show, they didn’t even feel like they belonged in the show, they felt like they were merely plot devices that were there to make sure Jane/Eleven has an epithany to go back to Hawkins and so they could tease the viewers with another psychic person. The whole plot of killing off the government agents is interesting too, but didn’t need to be in the show, it could easily work as a spin off. All of these characters felt like they were from another show and that the episode they appeared in was a crossover episode where they expect you to have already watched the other show

Jonathan & Nancy: One of the Things I liked about the first season is that Nancy and Jonathan didn’t have a stereotypical romance arc just because they were partners in crime, and friends instead. It’s not the most terrible thing in the world, its just a tad cliche. I liked the fact that Steve became a redeeming character by the end of the first season and would have preferred he continue his relationship with Nancy.

Aside from that, I still very much enjoyed this season, I liked the new characters, the plot, the cgi was certainly better, I like Lucas and Max’s budding romance. I felt this Season was a lot more humorous than Season 1, which I liked. All in all although I liked this one more I think from a more critical point of view Season 1 was better

I was at school today helping sorting scripts and one kid finds a booklet titled “Best monologues of the ‘80’s” which got everyone talking about season 3 and spoiling random sh*t for me when I’m only two episodes into season 2.

Although I love how the mere mention of the 1980’s instantly brang everyone’s minds onto ST, because we all know the 1980’s never happened and are merely the backdrop of a tv show.

The 80’s almost killed me. Let’s not recall them quite so fondly- The Hold Steady

The 80’s seem to be the most popular 20th century decade among post-2000 youth yet I don’t see anyone who actually lived through them too overly nostalgic for the decade itself
I loved the 80s! Great music and movies. Got married, moved to Seattle, bought a house. Spent the latter part as a DINK couple (double income, no kids) and had a great time.

I second that emotion! (Risky Business shades, LOL)

Add me to the list of the people who lived through the 80s and loved them. I know you are about to start ST3. That is set in July 1985 and the kids are about to start high school. That was me. Loved every second of the eighties and as I told my daughter (15) as we were watching season 3, it was great, because everyone and everything was so over the top (hair, fashion, music, cars, etc. etc.) and no one apologized for it, we just owned it!!! And we wore our sunglasses at night!!

They were OK. Not as good as the 90’s!

They both had pro's and con's..

The 80's...

Great films like E.T., Gremlins, The Terminator, etc, and so on, the birth of MTV, and the Atari 2600 and Nintendo would be a few of the great things.

The problems with the 80's, it was the decade when Reagan, Lifestyles of the Rich and Idiotic, and other things tried to make greed seem to be ok, which in my opinion played into the boomers kind of dropping the ball on climate change, and playing a role in economic issues we're still having today. I won't go into depth however, too late, and gays were treated horribly, and the aids epidemic was mishandled horribly.

The 90's...

Great films like Pulp Fiction, Clerks, etc, and so on, the internet becoming mainstream and creating a lot of solid jobs, and fashion styles were cooler, the goth look and grunge look were superior to the pastels and other fashion styles of the 80's, female empowerment became more hip, and gays and other minority groups started getting treated better.

The problems, the music, the pop music got more watered down and alternative rock wasn't very memorable, Waco was a disaster, the Rodney King beating, the cops getting off, the LA Riot, and the list goes on.

I'd say they're tied but we all have different beliefs so it is a matter of opinion of course.

All very subjective of course but gotta say there isn't a film I despise more than E.T. Elliot should have went all Ripley on that stupid, candy eating freak!

yeh its interesting. i think people who were kids and teens in the 1980's rember it on a nostalgia level. adults i dont think so. i am confused with the 1990's revival. people my own age are like the 1990's where awesome. sure i kind of like looking back at it but i dont think its the best decade. but i do like seeing things that i was into again. I was a teen in the 1990's. so yeh. i do smile when i see the same type of clothing on young 20 somethings.... but then it kind of makes me fell a bit old.

i just watched the first season of season three and will start the 2nd season, and i am wondering about the comparisons to Stephen king? i did not notice any in the first season, but then i have not really listened or read much of 1980's king. I dont really think of him in terms of decades?? to me he is the dude next door, i guess...

In overall, I think there are some high level similarities to King stories of that era, the 80s being the "1958" for those who grew up in the 80s. But that's just my opinion. And the logo of course.

Gotta admit, I was quite suspicous about this series at first. How wrong I was...

Of course, for me too, part of the charm is The Decade, as I was about the same age as these kids back then. But if the story, and characters weren't excellent, that wouldn't carry too far.

Now watching season 3, final episode left. Not binge watching this season, but it was hard to avoid.

I was intitially disappointed in this season but I thought the last 2 episodes were pretty spectacular. I felt the writing in at the beginning wasn’t really good, everyone just suddenly started hating each other for no good reason just to create pointless drama as a plot device. Anyways here are just some random thoughts on the newest season.

-I thought this season had better horror elements than the past two seasons, the old woman eating fertilizer and the flayed people melting were rather jarring to watch.

-I’m so glad Steve and Robin just managed to agree to be friends instead of doing the cliche thing and having some half-assed romance arc. That was the main problem I had with Jonathan and Nancy’s romance in season 2

-There were some pretty funny 80’s reference humor in this, the news report blaming satanism for the strange events occurring and Hawkins with a picture of the D&D box on the screen and Lucas trying to argue why he thought new coke was better were both pretty funny gags

-What is it with this show and killing off the best new characters at the end of each season, first it was Bobb in Season 2 and now Alexei in Season 3? Alexei was the best part about this season, ALL HE EVER WANTED WAS A WOODY WOODPECKER PLUSHIE GODDAMMIT

-I’m really pissed off at that cliffhanger at the end, I saw no reason why the last episode couldn’t be the series finale, the emotion isn’t on point and they are leading you in to believe that this is gonna be it until they hit you with that last scene at the end. With how Season 3 wraps up a whole ‘nother season will be awkward and unnecessary, I’d just like to leave it up to the viewers imagination about the Hawkins gang moving on with their lives. Who friggin cares if the commies are feeding their prisoners to Demogorgons?

Other than how gays, women, and minorities were treated far worse in the 80's than now, the rest of the post was all opinion based. As for E.T., some focus on E.T. but it was really about Elliot, he was dealing with his father leaving them and was hurting and then E.T. filled that void Elliot had and made him feel better about his fathers departure. In the end, Elliot lost E.T. so its hard to say if Elliot sank back into depression since he was once again without that support he had previously gotten from his father and then E.T. or if he had grown a thicker skin due to what he experienced during his time with E.T. In short, I always felt the film was marketed primarily to kids who were dealing with divorce at the time since in the early 80's, divorce rates started skyrocketing leaving a lot of kids with a sense of abandonment.

Cameron kind of did the same thing with T2 by using the Terminator to be a father figure to John. But I prefer E.T. because I am not an Arnold fan.

BonusXP released a 16 bit retro style Stranger Things game based on Season 3 for various platforms. I've been playing it since they released it and it isn't bad. If one is a total graphic addict and needs modern day graphics, they won't dig the 16 bit look but if they like the retro thing, which they should if they're an ST fan, they'll dig it. It basically relies on beating up the bad guys and solving puzzles and the puzzles are a lot of fun except one, the one on Part 4. However, I haven't watched season 3 yet and the game tells the whole story of season 3 for the most part, so now I know what happens. However, I've never been anti spoiler really

There's also a new smartphone game being released and the Dead by Daylight thing that Panda brought up. Netflix made a statement awhile back saying they were going to milk the video game market as much as they can this year, looks like they meant it.
