Friends of mine who are huge Dark Tower fans have asked me to officiate their wedding. We are working on trying to incorporate The Dark Tower into the ceremony itself. I really like the whole "I do not aim with my hand..." mantra and was thinking that would be a good way to achieve the goal of incorporating this. I think we would want the wedding mantra to end with "I do not wed with my words; I wed with my heart/soul."

Does anyone have any ideas for two more parts of a mantra for a wedding? I think this may be a good way of merging this with the vows.

For reference, the original mantra is:
“I do not aim with my hand; he who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I aim with my eye.

I do not shoot with my hand; he who shoots with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I shoot with my mind.

I do not kill with my gun; he who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father.
I kill with my heart.”

I will have to talk to the bride and groom, but I like this:

“The road and the tale have both been long, would you not say so? The trip has been long and the cost has been high... but no great thing was ever attained easily. A long tale, like a tall Tower, must be built a stone at a time.”

I'm thinking I would want to end with "I do not wed with my words; those who wed with their words have forgotten the faces of their ancestors. I wed with my heart (or soul)." I'm looking for a couple more verses to complete the cadence of three verses, as the original mantra had.

Howdy EricTheRev,

I do not love with my mind, I love with my emotions.
I do not honour because I should, I honour because I am helpless not to.
I do not obey your mother. (This is the joke one).

If it's a Jewish wedding I'd find a way to mention the billy bumbler. :smile-new:

Sounds like fun...good luck!

All the best, mal

....Hi Rev!.....this is a lovely idea and you are tracking it quite well.....might I suggest this somewhere?......

“How infinite was love, twining in and out of hope and memory like a braid with three strong strands, so much the Bright Tower of every human's life and soul.”
