Since Monday was a beautiful day, I went kayaking on the river with my friends Laura and Amanda. Knowing it was my first time ever in a kayak, they said they'd hold it while I got in, and they'd show me what to do. I messaged the BF to tell him the plan for the day. His first reply asked if this was the same friends who I went to see Eric Church and Dwight Yoakam with. When I said yes, his second reply was "wear a life jacket".
I feel like I did pretty well for the most part. I didn't fall out or turn the entire thing over. I couldn't get stopped on the first landing where we wanted to stop, and I learned that I can't paddle upstream in a swift current. At the second landing spot, I beached perfectly but Laura encountered a extremely friendly frog, and almost flipped both our kayaks trying to get away. The third lading was the charm. All three of us were able to stop without incident, and sat for an hour or so just chatting and enjoying the sun. I now have the worst sunburn I've ever had in my life. It was worth it though......now I want a kayak.
Later when I get time, remind me to tell you the story of Laura and the frog.......it's almost as good as the story of Brains and the shipwreck......almost.

:biggrin2:

I've always wanted to go kayaking. (I just reread Deliverance a couple years ago.). That notwithstanding, and overlooking any mild innate jitters, I'd love to plan a trip, especially somewhere like mountainous NC.
He had good reason to recommend the life jacket considering what happened at the concert.......

Come on up! We have the New River. It's supposed to be a nice easy river for kayaking. Hope you're not squeamish of frogs!

It hasn't happened yet, as I have to drive over to her house, but today is the day I get my shaggy mop :afro: trimmed at the hairdresser's - I am bringing her a gift pack of two bottles of essential oil - last time I was there she said she wasn't using her diffuser because she ran out of essential oil.

Sundrop - just wanted to say how much everyone appreciates a hairdresser (all year round!) but especially at a time like this - hoping that things settle down in your area so you can get back to business again
