I watched the movie on Netflix not long ago, and I kept thinking that this is the Monty Python of vampire flicks.
It made me laugh and laugh. I'll have to check out the series.

"We're Werewolves, not swearwolves."

I love this damn movie. I love flight of the conchord's Jemaine. I love Murray (Rhys Darby). Great movie.

Haven't watched the TV show, afraid they will mess it up.
I love this movie yet when I watched the beginning of it recently with Andy he just didn't get it and did not find it funny - weird isn't it how some people "get" the movie and others do not?

For those in the Uk, or who can receive BBC: the first two episodes of the second season are tomorrow night.

I wasn't crazy about the movie, but I like the series much more. It must just be that I find the actors in the show funnier, because it is exactly the same concept. Also perhaps because the show episodes are shorter it makes the humor sharper. Especially the female vampire, Nadja, has a way of side-glancing at the camera at certain moments that's hilarious to me.

It requires a certain mood. You just have to be in the mood for something silly. But sense of humor differs strongly from one person to the next anyway, although there are some things pretty much anyone finds funny, a universal kind of humor.

It's just these ancient, once aristocratic vampires that deal with all sorts of mundane, modern day situations now. You kind of have to get that concept I suppose, and have to find it funny.

I discovered it a few months ago. Binged Season One and waiting for the Season Two finale tonight. FX ran the movie last week and I finally got to see it all (kept catching bits and, as anyone who's seen it can attest, "bits" don't make sense). I loved both Taika Watiti and Jermaine Clement so anything they collaborate on has to be good.

I watched a panel of the cast and producers on YouTube (from the premiere of Season One, I think) and it's weird to see the three main vamps out of character. Except for the guy who plays Colin. He actually talks like that... very monotone... of course, he could've been funning us. The mod of the panel noted that we just saw his audition. I've known many Colin Robinsons in my time. :chuncky:

Oh funny! I had no idea there was even a series! I was talking about the movie.
Is the series on Netflix? (we have different Netflix shows though, hopefully we'll have it if so)
The series goes by the same name as the movie?

The series is on FX and then Hulu the next day. It may be available online, too. It's worth looking for because it's a riot. Season Two just ended so you can BINGE!!!

There's a whole article about New Zealand humor:

Especially sheep seem to play an important role in it, hence the comedy Black Sheep, which is really fun I remember.

You also see often that neighbouring countries make jokes about each other. New Zealand and Australia do it. But the Netherlands do it with Belgians: all the jokes about Belgians amount to the Belgians being stupid and eating a lot of fries. Actually the Dutch eat as much, if not more fries than the Belgians.

Here's another long article about it. It seems Kiwi humor is more dark, twisted and sometimes offensive. Which explains why horror comedies come regularly from New Zealand:
