This might be the most freaked out I have been during a Stephen King book, I am not even 100% sure why. It ended up taking me weeks to finish it, even though I loved it lol.

There are many many Stephen King books that I like more than this and that are much better written than Geralds Game, but there is something about this book that just freaked me right out.

This is definitely a good -- and academically interesting -- book that I believe will receive a lot of scholarly scrutiny years from now.

However, the whole Space Cowboy thing, as well as the long letter at the end, I have to be honest -- I think those additions were mistakes. While they did make for great reading (he said in contradiction, admittedly) and added some suspense capital, they also felt so contrived. Still, a good book.

I haven't read this in a while, so I'm sure King compared the Cowboy to a ghost at some point, but I always thought something about the predicament of the character (without checking, I think the name was Jess Burlingame, am I close?): imagine if someone purposely cuffed someone to a bed in the room of a haunted house and the person had to watch furniture fly around, hear weird voices, see demonic children in the corner? That would scare the heck out of me. (I wonder if there has ever been a story like that; if not, I may want to experiment with the idea; might make a cool short film.)

Hmmm, interesting you bring this up. I remember enjoying GG when it came out, but I'll be damned if I can remember a lot of the story now (except that it tied in to Dolores Claiborne). Will probably revisit this one via the audio book.
