Just discovered that my Audible account is still open, so I'm on the lookout for good audiobooks of novels I've been wanting to read. I see that Sissy Spacek narrates it, which sounds amazing. Anyone here listened to the audiobook and can recommend it ?
I did not know that Sissy Spacek narrates this book. That is really cool! I must confess I have never listened to an audio book. Welcome to the SKMB Andyy!

I have never listened to an audio book

...they don't do much as an after-work snack either...and BTW, what the hell happened to my quote button my Board toolbar?...it's MIA....

I'm not sure if you are up with the times, but I had made a similar statement once. The audio books from the days gone by were poorly made and narration was pretty close to monotone. Today, they are much better with Narrators like Frank Muller (RIP), Jonathan Melrose (Retired), Grover Gardner, Scott Brick, Campbell Scott, Katherine Kellgren, Will Patton, George Guidall and many others, not to mention the new technology used in audio books.

It May still do nothing for you; however, I get more of my daily chores done listening to a audio books. When I read I get nothing done but the reading of the book. It can also make long road trips appear too short. Audio books are like the movie version in your head, except they are uncut.

I just borrowed the CD version of "Carrie" (ISBN: 1-4025-9383-X) from the library and I'm a bit disappointed. There should be absolutely no static on a CD. I'm guessing the master, they used to produce it, came from the old technology when cassettes were being produced. If you don't turn it up to hear throughout the house, like I do, it may not bother you. I find static very distracting, even at lower volumes, as when I'm driving or out walking.

....I appreciate that, and I'm not a complete dinosaur.....I have listened to a couple of short stories that were recorded, just like the sound of my own inner voice better as I read....when I'm working round the house-I usually have 70's music or hard rock blaring and when I drive, lots of ESPN.......

I don't have good voices in my head.
Shut up! He wasn't talking to you!
That's cool; however, I'm not sure you have to be a dinosaur to be behind on the new narrator talent and technology. Like many things, we try it once and no one keeps going back once they decide they don't like something. Tried any beets, liver, broccoli or balut lately?

Beethoven did a good job of using his inner sound in his later years, not by choice, but still amazingly well.
Your music is played in my home all the time, when the audio books are not going. I'm lucky that my 18 year old loves that brand of music as well; although his music stretches from the 70's back to the 50's
He doesn't read fiction, but he tolerates my audio books

....I appreciate technology, but I cut my teeth as a voracious reader-and I still prefer the printed page-it's nothing to do with not going back, just something that doesn't interest me....I will confess though at my doddering age of 55, that I DO like broccoli and beets now, but have never yearned to ingest a duck embryo.....

I love broccoli. I meant to say Brussel Sprouts. My son has loved beets, spinach and every vegetable known from birth!

Like you, he is very opposed to electronic books. I don't care for the Kindle & eBook, either, but I like audio books. I'm not going to read a book from a computer screen. That's for sure! I read enough online as it is. One thing I have learned is, I need the printed book near by when I'm listening to the audio. Sometimes, I just don't get what they say, or may not know the word. The printed book, helps conquer that issue. I once had to stop the audio and read the chapter from the book, because I just wasn't getting it.
We have acquired a pretty good library in our home. I'd hate for times to change so drastic that printed books became obsolete. Most catalogues have gone away. They tried to replace newspapers and magazines with online text, but they had great opposition.

I am an Audio Book addict. I probably have 30 SK stories on Audio. Listen to them to and from work every day. Sissy Spacek does a marvelous job on it, most definitely a recommend here.

Yea, me too! I have some of his books read by different narrators, so it's lika like a different book, when I go back. He's the only author I have different narrators for so many of his books. I have different ones for a couple of Harlan Coben's, but most only record once, either that or I just don't know where to look for the others

I will have to agree....she really keeps the listener engaged. And Will Patton is amazing on the Bill Hodges Trilogy

Will Patton is excellent. I have Doctor Sleep with him doing the Audio. Anything with Frank Muller reading is gold too. I particularly like the fact that SK often has actors who have played in the movies adapted from his work to read the Audio Books. I have some read by Kathy Bates, David Morse (Brutal from Green Mile), Jeffrey DeMunn (Harry from Green Mile, Robbie from Storm of the Century, etc) and Sissy Spacek just to name some off the top of my head. Adds an extra dose of coolness to them.

I absolutely love Will Patton's narrations. I also loved Blair Brown and King in "Rose Madder". I think I've listened to that book and The Stand more than any other. My favorite narrator, though, is SK himself. I don't think anyone reads his books better than he does.

You have to be careful with an Audible account. It's as dangerous as an iTunes account, when it comes to moneysuckers...but worth every penny to me!:jammin:
