Alright,
I am currently listening to this on Overdrive, awesome by the way, and I had to vent a little about this part of the story.
So, right before he enters the party, he takes the mescaline that Olivia had given him, and proceeds to have a nice trip, eventually ending up back at home and watching the ball drop in New York.
My issue comes in here;
He says he took the pill at 8:30, and he ends up falling asleep just after midnight, "coming down" from the mesc. the thing is, I know from experience, 3 and half hours after takino the pill he would literally Just be in the thick of the trip. good mescaline usually doesn't even begin to hit most people for 2 hours! no lie, and once it does hit, you are in for at a minimum of 10 hours of pissing rainbows and watching couches breath.
Anyway, I just felt that this telling of a "trip" was way off mark. and I had to vent it to someone , and unfortunately I can't call up Richard Bachman to tell him, so I found this forum!
Great story otherwise and I look forward to the end!

Thank you!
Since I got in to audiobooks, I've already listened to Under the Dome (amazing), the Running Man (way better than the film) and finished reading The Talisman (absolutely loved the ending).
I'm currently listening to this, and On Writing. I can't believe I thought I wouldn't like audiobooks!
Ha ha, Stephen King, imo, is the greatest novelist of the 20th, and 21st centuries. and every time I read another author, I think "man, they are a good writer", but then I come back to King and POW, it's like his words have a power that no other writer has.
Thanks yall

I did not read past the first sentence of the opening post because of the spoiler alert. But I recently purchased a paperback edition.......have yet to start reading. I keep putting it off and reading other books instead. Just wondering if I should go ahead and just read it.....but now it sounds like the audiobook may be a better option. From some of the reviews I have read, it is not a fan favorite.......but then others say it is outstanding.

I absolutely loved the book. I did listen to it on audiobook, but that's only cause I can listen while at work.
I definitely recommend you proceed!

I liked the book. Not as much as I like The Long Walk, but it is still a good read. There's nothing supernatural in it at all- it's a straight forward novel. The ending is a downer though as are most of the 'Bachman' novels.
