Lisey's Story holds a special place in my heart, his dedication to Tabby in the beginning just shows how much this book means. A story of heartbreak, remember what stays behind the purple (don't we all have such a shroud in our own minds, keeping the worst of our memories hidden away for a good reason?), and besides dealing with Mr. Dooley, it is a story of a middle age woman who rescues not just her sister but also finally can let go of the worst of her feeling of being alone and losing Scott.
It is a book I have read several times now, each time I find myself reading something that I had missed or getting a new feeling towards the ink on the page. It is very close to me because of the heartbreak of losing a loved one. Such as when Lisey goes on a rage in Scott's office and throws things around screaming and sobbing. I have had many losses in my life, between friends and beloved family members, and it hits home to me just how much Lisey loved the man with his dark side. Every time I read it, it brings me to tears but most importantly, I get to go down to the pool for a drink. The pool where looks can be deceiving and the braver ones take boats out to fish.
My favorite line in the book is Lisey's introspective thinking about Scott, that what good is love if it even comes down to 2 seconds of feeling like this (the loss and sorrow).
It is one that I hold dear to my heart, and that I read when I'm a feel a bit of melancholy, read when I try to remind myself that someone to love is out there and will be found on a whim or unusual circumstances.
It is, in my opinion, the most touching novel that Mr. King has ever written, and is a beautiful piece towards someone he loves dearly and will never stop loving Tabby, and he will always be there for her, physically or in her heart. I think perhaps when this great man passes, he will leave his own version of stations of the pool for Tabitha. Someone to help her cope and carry on when he takes the final bow.
It is an intense book of love, fighting for the ones who love and the ones that want nothing more that to harass you, and to never stop remember the good of all of the years together. It is so touching, so endearing, that it brings me to tears each time I read it over again as I stated. It's a novel of fiction, but fiction blends into reality sometimes and I believe it is one long love note to the one who has been with him for so long now, someone who gets him and stays by his side whether he is being destructive or depressed.
I suppose I am done with my ramblings about this book, but my god it is possible one of my favorite non-horror novels he has written. So I guess all I have to say at the end her is:
